Satellite images show ethnic cleanout in Iraq

Today, geography professor John Agnew of UCLA has an answer for us.

Satellite images taken at night show heavily Sunni Arab neighborhoods of Baghdad began emptying before a U.S. troop surge in 2007, graphic evidence of ethnic cleansing that preceded a drop in violence,

"By the launch of the surge, many of the targets of conflict had either been killed or fled the country, and they turned off the lights when they left," geography professor John Agnew of the University of California Los Angeles, who led the study, said in a statement.

"Essentially, our interpretation is that violence has declined in Baghdad because of intercommunal violence that reached a climax as the surge was beginning," said Agnew, who studies ethnic conflict.

"Our findings suggest that the surge has had no observable effect, except insofar as it has helped to provide a seal of approval for a process of ethno-sectarian neighborhood homogenization that is now largely achieved," Agnew's team wrote in their report.

2. "Agnew"? Unfortunate name for a smart guy.
I hope his findings get some airplay.

3. What a scam.
I knew this was a joke when our fucking roll-over leaders approved more and more money for a war without end.

5. VISUAL IMAGE

“If the surge had truly ‘worked,’ we would expect to see a steady increase in night-light output over time,” says Thomas Gillespie, one of the co-authors, in a press release. “Instead, we found that the night-light signature diminished in only certain neighborhoods, and the pattern appears to be associated with ethno-sectarian violence and neighborhood ethnic cleansing.”

6. Bring it to PA
There is an ad playing in PA that shows Barack being wrong on the "surge". This is good to counter if it can be done.

7. Problem is that the mainstream can't handle this truth
So they'll continue to report that the "surge" is working without noticing the truth.

Iraq is a gas station for the Empire. That isn't going to change anytime soon despite the election in November, etc.
