I think our looming economic crises are merely the outward signs
of deep, pervasive, and long-standing problems in the world.

The fundamentals, not just of the market, but of the economy, and of the society as a whole, are all very wrong. If one conceives of the species (or even the whole biosphere) as a single organism, then many of our social institutions are like cancerous organs, dedicated only to their own unbridled growth and heedlessly releasing toxins into the rest of the body.

The fundamental flaw of capitalism is that all the parts are at constant war with each other, like the 19th-century conception of "the law of the jungle." (Shades of Sinclair Lewis!), all the elements are ultimately self-centered, and the few instances of cooperation one can find are actually perverse, as in market rigging.

1. Which only works if there is a surplus of resources. When there is a
shortage of resources then it becomes pure survival of the fittest. Something most thinking people do not want to apply to themselves.

2. The Econ Spiral went too big till debt overwhelmed all else.
We have yet to install a better system. Those in charge now, those incombents don't want change as the present system benefits themselves....

Surely we can do it if we want it....

4. I guess the 2nd Law of thermodynamics
pretty much guarantees that.
