Paulson said today that the bailout was "better than the alternative".
What is the "alternative"? Nobody is saying? How can we (or Congress)make a decision if we don't know what it is? And why are the American people being kept in the dark on this? Are we too stupid to understand?

2. I don't care if the alternative is a crash.
This is a complete shameless rip-off. It's an enormous welfare HANDOUT for the rich in a country where we sneer at the idea of welfare for people who actually need it. Complete SCAM and racket. Privatize the gains, socialize the losses. Tony Soprano never had it so good. As Kucinich implored us, "Wake up, America!" This is a blatant fraud. We are being asked to fund the greed of the yacht class.

8. I care, because I have a little bit of money saved up
and some of it in mutual funds, but I don't care enough to just say "do what you will while we all look the other way."

16. privatization is another word for tossing the poor to the wolves....
It IS time for stupid Americans to "wake up!"

here's the most magnificent website you'll ever see:
http://www.wbr.com/donhenley/index2.html

Inside Job

(Don Henley/Mike Campbell)

While you were sleeping

They came and took it all away

The lanes and the meadows

The places where you used to play

It was an inside job

By the well-connected

Your little protest

Summarily rejected

It was an inside job

Like it always is

Chalk it up to business as usual

While we are dreaming

This little island disappears

While you are looking the other way

They’ll take your right to own your own ideas

And it’s an inside job

Favors collected

Your trusted servants

Have left you unprotected

It was an inside job

Like it always is

Just chalk it up

To business as usual

You think that you’re so smart

But you don’t have a fucking clue

What those men up in the towers

Are doing to me and you

And they’ll keep doin’ it and doin’ it

And doin’ it and doin’ it

And doin’ it and doin’ it

And doin’ it and doin’ it

Until we all wake up

Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up

I know what I’ve done wrong

I am acquainted with the night

I know how hard it is

To always walk out in the light

And it’s an inside job

To learn about forgiving

It’s an inside job

To hang on to the joy of living

They know the road by which you came

They know your mother’s maiden name

And what you had for breakfast

And what you’ve hidden in the mattress

Insect politics

Indifferent universe

Bang your head against the wall

But apathy is worse

It’s an inside job

It’s an inside job

It’s an inside job

Yeh, yeah

It’s an inside job

It’s an inside job

It’s an inside job

It’s an inside job

It’s an inside job

It’s an inside job

23. No, I think you do care, or if you don't, you should, but,
this bailout isn't going to do what it's being sold as doing. It is one last handout to the pigs at the trough, henceforth known as the economic terrorists.

We do need to figure out a real plan, though, because otherwise, we are going to learn firsthand what made all of our grand and great grandparents so damn neurotic throughout their lives.

24. So will Mooselini,
you win some, you lose some. I just hope the press realizes that she used that tactic to disarm "Charlie" and therefore keep her from doing it again.

13. the old "Bush Doctrine" in action
Paulson said this $700B to $1T was "preventing failure." Preemptive action, I guess...bail 'em out before they need it?

9. Paulson apparently went into more detail behind closed doors with Congressional leaders
and it reportedly left them gasping for air. Paulson literally terrorized them with some
worst-case scenario boogymen that left the Congressmen/women speechless and in shock.

Make no mistake, this is nothing less than a hold-up, and Paulson's pointing the gun to our
heads and saying "give me the fucking $700,000, or else!!!"

12. Whatever Paulson told them,
this was the reaction:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4054172&mesg_id=4054172

Reporters asked Dodd to describe specifically what Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson said to lawmakers last Thursday that led to the sense of urgency on Capitol Hill this weekend. Dodd declined but compared his colleagues’ reactions to that of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

17. The alternative being . . .
That Henry Paulson doesn't get $700 billion of our money to do whatever occurs to him without any review or oversight whatsoever. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me, if my name was Henry Paulson. If I wasn't named Henry Paulson, however, I'd like to see what else might be considered.

22. He alluded to it with nods and grimaces this a.m.
Everyone watching could tell what he meant.

Which is why the market will burn tomorrow. Giving him more fuel to pressure the Dems. Bloomberg was actually MORE OPTIMISTIC in his section.
