Concerning Bristol Palin and unwed motherhood, if you are about 30 or younger,

you may not realize that unwed pregnancy used to be a terrible thing to happen to a young women. It was a scandal for her and her family. Her options were usually, to have the child and give it up for adoption. This was kept secret and the story put out was often that she was off visiting a relative in another city. Or else she and the boy/man got married. Sometimes the family pretended the child was the girl’s younger sibling. Ted Bundy was raised this way, believing for years that his mother was his older sister. Or she could try to get an illegal—and most likely unsafe—abortion.

Often the boy/man involved would get his friends to claim that they had had sex with her too, so how would he know the child was his. And at the time, there was no way to tell for certain.

Nowadays, thank goodness, unwed mothers are generally treated much more humanely. But, just be aware that this hasn’t always been the case.

Maybe you already knew all this. If you did, good for you.

spending the "spring" semester at the new school. Where did you read that she was sent off in December? I know I read something about that somewhere, but I wasn't able to find it when I looked recently.
