Mbeki Resigns Before the Nation

STAFF REPORTER AND AGENCIES | PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - Sep 21 2008 19:37

President Thabo Mbeki has tendered his resignation, he said in a live television broadcast on Sunday

"Today I handed a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly, the honourable Baleka Mbete, to tender my resignation from the high position of president of the Republic of South Africa effective from the day that will be determined by the national assembly."

...

He denied that he had colluded with prosecutors against African National Congress president Jacob Zuma as part of a power struggle within the party.

Mbeki also referred to the “inferences” made by Pietermaritzburg High Court Judge Chris Nicholson.

In his ruling on 12 September, Nicholson said it appeared that Mbeki and Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Brigitte Mabandla had colluded with prosecutors against Zuma as part of a power struggle within the party.

<end quote>

You didn't think I was referring to Bush did you?

:rofl:

You have to have the rule of law to force a president to resign over politicized prosecutions.

1. Absolutely everything this administration has done has been politicized, or so it could be
convincingly argued: it is solely about implementation of an extreme RW ideological agenda, including punishing enemies and rewarding friends, and nothing, absolutely nothing, about governance in accordance with the Constitution, the laws of the land, the rule of law, and execution of the congressionally-mandated mission of each government entity/agency. So holistically, the only conclusion that can be made is that the entire administration has been nothing but a vast criminal operation from the git-go imv. Refutation of any/all of this thesis is invited for it would relieve a lot of anxiety. :P

2. I agree that the Bush administration is basically a criminal enterprise
It amazes me that South Africa was able to hold its president accountable and we cannot.
