As a Frenchman, I am delighted to read this
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1843168,00.html

I suppose all the francophic references in this article are used to mock those who like to criticize France and it's 5 weeks of paid vacations, 35-hour work week and it's awful healthcare and education system.

Now what I am doing in the US? Well, I moved here for the love of a woman (can you make it more caricatural of the romantic French guy?)

No 24/7 drive thru Taco Bell.

No kidding. Learning French, he was ok with that. Spending 2 more hours at school each day... he even was ok with that. Watching South Park in French.... he was ok with that.

But... no drive thru Taco Bell? You had to be kidding, right?

Seriously.

29. Mind-boggling! He stays in the U.S. for taco bell? Does he know what's in that stuff.
One of my daughter's friends worked there and after he saw what it really was he couldn't eat it anymore. The refried beans start out as a powder that is reconstituted with water. YUCK!

30. Other fast food restaurants stick to liquids and slurries.
Bring up the tanker truck, hook up the hoses and pump it into the restaurant. Then the employees dispense it right onto the grill and containers with those hoses hanging out of the ceiling.

Why mess around with that melamine-laced powdered stuff?

35 hour work week. I think that sounds great. The american dream is a farce. They have sold us a bill of goods. Like the woman that told bush she worked 3 jobs. His reply "That's uniquely American" what a bunch of Bull Shit they have sold us. I'm with you! Wake the fuck up sheep-le, we have been sold a bill of goods.

7. I've been here 10 years but thanks!
I always hesitated to apply for citizenship for years, as I felt I would betray my country of origin.

And then Barack Obama happened and I felt extremely motivated.

13. "always hesitated to apply for citizenship for years, as I felt I would betray my country of origin"
VERY nice sentiment.

My parents always stayed Spanish even though they lived in Brazil for more than 30 years and had a son (me) there. Taught me to always stay Brazilian.

Far from me to decry people who take on another citizenship, but... sometimes one just loves their country no matter what, not in a jingoistic "rah rah" way, but in a "it's my family" way.

:patriot:

11. I haven't read the article, but my husband's former boss
is from France and works here (also married an American). He's doing A-OK.

But I'm with another poster; you guys went the wrong way! I wish I had an opportunity now. I was a 'jeune fille au pair' in Paree' in 1973 for about 6 months. I was too young and missed home a lot. Now, a few years later would have worked. I have a nice warm spot in my heart for France. The boys, the baguettes, the wine, the 'oldness' of it. Loved it.

what is the point? to make people ashamed we're acting "like france?" But then saying we've always acted like france, but more like france than france does... what a bunch of convoluted pointless drive.

26. Yes, probably ...
I mean, if you post an ad, ask if a Frenchie would be ready to welcome you in his/her house and shows you around (and I mean... grrrrraround), while you do the same in return, why not?

I don't see how this would not be possible.

Vous venez de quelle région de la France?

Moi, J'étais né à Paris; le 12ème.
Mais J'ai émigré en Amérique dans les années 70.

Educational opportunities in France are not all that.....
As a French emigrant with a daughter currently Senior at Harvard,
I can attest to the fact that she would have never had that opportunity,
had she had been born in France.

31. Our government went so far right it folded in on itself and went socialist.
In nature, anything unregulated by predators or limited by resources surges and crashes repeatedly. That includes bacteria, rabbits and yes, humans.

In civilization anything unregulated is unstable, accident-prone and reckless. That includes, to name a few, drinking, sex, driving automobiles, business and banking.

A fitting end to the * administration.
