Paulson, Bernanke, and, yeah, Greenspan sat at the top and presided over
this financial mess without one whimper of anything being wrong with the way America was conducting business. Not one whimper beyond an occasional "slowdown in the economy" and reduction in the interest rate to prevent inflation. Not one of them took the lenders to task over their practices. Not one. Not one whimper....not one. Then. KABOOOM!

These people should be imprisoned for fraud.

1. You can't imprison people just for being greedy and stupid.
We'd all be in a lot of trouble if you could.

2. How about theft?
It seems pretty clear to me that the bonuses and big salaries had to be some else's money.

8. Sports players and movie stars have similar salaries
Due to the immense size of our society, it's only natural for individuals who wield a lot of power to make enormous amounts of money, even when they totally screw up. It's the responsibility of boards of directors to keep CEOs properly accountable to the shareholders.

If life were fair, no one would make that kind of dough, but if life were fair, we'd all be Communists. Or Libertarians.

4. that's not really true. I remember whimpers out of Greenspan
but he was each time shouted down by the * admin and associated sycophants.

6. At the very least, the people who either allowed this to happen or didn't see it coming
should not be trusted to oversee the recovery. Paulson and Bernanke should step down, and be forbidden from ever working in the financial sector again. They should be held accountable for failure to do their jobs properly, and for not taking steps to prevent this from happening.

7. By the time Paulson and Bernanke were in power, it was mostly too late
Honestly, they deserve credit for keeping the whole system running for so long despite this enormous crisis without any dreadful side effects or drastic actions until now. Greenspan, OTOH, is more personally responsible than any other man in the world.
