It sounds like there is gonna be a showdown in the House & Senate before any bail-out is passed...and Gramps is in the middle. His lobbyist buddies want the Paulson sell-out badly...but if Gramps comes out for it, he not only pisses off Democrats (no big feat), but also his own right wing...especially the fiscal conservatives. So let's see what kind of "leader" Gramps is. He tap-danced away from an answer yesterday...let's see how long he can continue to play Fred Astaire...
If I was reading the tea-leaves right on the Finance Committee, and if Democrats vote this proposal down, the bill won't even make it for a floor vote...at least in its present form. I'd venture to guess that the GOOP is split on their support...the torn between their loyalty to the booooosh regime and their own political hides.
Nothing would be more fun than a GOOP food fight over this...
When the time comes to vote make every member of congress walk up to the podium and cast their vote verbally, Republican's first. That way we can put them on you tube for all to see.
The Finance Committee vote could be fun...that's done according to party line. The main Senate vote is done is alphabetical order...then you have to guess what the score is.
This is a great campaign issue. I'd propose that ALL Democrats running against a GOOP incumbent demand to know what their vote on this issue would be. There will be a bunch of debates ahead on the state and local level...let that be one of the questions that is asked.
Bernie Sanders was saying yesterday that this could be the October surprise. If McSame votes against this and the dems vote for it, the attack ads will start. The dems are protecting Obama by pre-empting that scenario.
