3. Hey, if the GOP wants to run away from their obligation to voters ...
... this is the opportunity that Libertarians have been waiting for.

2. I hear George W. Bush is available. Since he is the next closest thing to McCain
why not let him stand in and be eviscerated by Obama?

5. Palin should pinch hit for McCain
A Veep candidate needs to be ready to take over when the Presidential candidate in unable to function.

6. He's still recognized as a Republican to many people
Not a good idea to give them a forum when their own candidate has chickened out.

Besides, Barr would be a tougher debate than McCain, why do that to Obama?

7. Obama can handle Barr.
If McCain does not show his face during a debate, he is taking himself out. If Barr does show, it can split the GOP vote.

9. Bring it on!
It will confuse the Republicans to no end, may actually bring a lot of former Republican stalwarts out to vote Libertarian, and will make McCain look like even more of a putz than he is now. There may actually be some substance to the debates too, and I suspect that Barr is much less likely to go the low road against Obama ... like most third party candidates, his goal at this stage is to reach that magic 5% to gain federal funding in the next election.
