And I've got to say why I haven't nuked him... it's simply that my family has always been close, we've lost a number of people in the last 10 years, and I hate to alienate any of those left. BUT - when shit like this happens, I just about have to bite my tongue off...

I talked to my uncle a few hours ago about a totally unrelated thing, but one of the first things he said was 'Didja see the world's ending in about 5 minutes?' I knew he was talking about the financial crises, and he said 'yeah, that nigger's gonna meet with McCain and Bush in the White House'. Can you believe somebody's still talking like this in 2008? Even if he IS 80 years old? Shee-it!

I don't know, but sometimes I think he says this shit in an attempt to get a rise out of me. As I said, sticky family situation and all that, but the real deal is that I'll be leaving TX after going back to school anyway, so I'll have much less contact w/those in my family who are conservative (they're not all that way by a long shot, thank Gawd :^).

And yeah, as awful as it is to hear public displays of racism, I'll acknowledge that we've all come a long way on that score. Democrats and Republicans, frankly.
