Writer knocks D.C.'s allies of Hispanics

To the editor:

Don't let Ruben Navarette's views fool you. Although he no doubt defends Hispanics and the rights of Mexicans to immigrate to our country, he puts down, in column after column, the very party that would defend their right to do so: the Democratic Party.

In his latest column, he accuses them of "flip-flopping" on true immigration reform. He claims that "some folks are so eager to put a Democrat in the White House that they're putting party before truth. They include Latino groups such as the National Council of La Raza and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund ... ."

Well, Mr. Navarette needs to know this: The Democrats are not the ones pushing for a border wall. They're not the ones calling for a national English-only law. They're not the ones trying to eliminate bilingual education. They're not the ones calling for laws that would separate immigrant parents from their kids by sending them back to Mexico. They're not the ones trying to deny immigrants social services and their kids the chance to attend school.

And finally, La Raza and the MALDEF are on our side, working to ensure that we're treated like citizens and human beings.

If Mr. Navarette really wants justice for Hispanics, he sure isn't going to get it from the Republicans.
