2. As a group, you Canadians can be pretty scary.
Why, just the other night Sarah Palin was talking about she has to constantly defend Alaska from the likes of Canada and Russia...then she started talking about job growth...then she started talking about health benefits...and none of it really had anything to do with the question asked...

...never mind. What was the question again?

3. But I have to have one to go to Mexico, of all places.
And it has the same non-existent address as my Drivers License.

So much for Homeland Security.

6. Really?
I didn't need a passport to go to Mexico in 2006: I just needed my Liquor Board card (i.e. one piece of valid ID from either the Ontario or Canadian governments) and my birth certificate.

But if you just copy and paste all of the text and paste it into your browser (remove the space between the m and é in Américain.

10. Why would you want to come into the IOUSA? Garrison Keillo wants a Coast Guard station on Rainy Lake
http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/programs/2008/02/09/scripts/coast.shtml

GK: We have with us today 4-Star Admiral Thad W. Allen and Master Chief Charles Bowen of the United States Coast Guard, along with several other high-ranking Coast Guard officers-and I can't think of a better time to talk about the need for a major Coast Guard installation in Minnesota. Yes, there is a Coast Guard station in Duluth on Lake Superior (FOGHORN), the world's largest freshwater lake, but what about Rainy Lake in the north, on the front line of this nation's defenses against the rapacious Canadians

LOW THROBBING MUSIC)

GK: Rainy Lake — eighty kilometers in length — eighty kilometers of international waters defended only by a few fishermen (TK DRUNK: Hey— getting any bites? Want me to bite you? Ha ha ha ha ha.) — and by families of loons (LOON) — and so it's no wonder that Rainy Lake is a revolving door for thousands of senior citizens who head north to buy cheap prescription drugs from Canada (GEEZERS MUTTERING ABOUT AILMENTS). In the summer they go by motorboat (MOTORBOAT), or seaplane (SMALL PLANE), and in the winter they take snowmobiles (SNOWMOBILE), or dogsled (SLED DOGS)-and a few cross on foot using a walker with tennis balls on one end—(WIND, SHUFFLING, WOLF).

GK: They go to Ontario for the day, and stuff their support hose with Paxil and Synthroid and Lipitor and Baycol (SENIORS MUMBLING)-and then they go home and take the drugs, which are powerful (GEEZER CONFUSION) and which program them to go to their computers (GEEZER) and wire money to Canada (CLICK) and meanwhile illegal Canadians, what we call Frostbacks, ride across the border on the backs of Elk (ELK), and bison (BISON), carrying more prescription drugs in their backpacks, and they meet in fishing houses along Rainy Lake (DOOR OPENS, WIND, DOOR CLOSES) and that's why we need a Rainy Lake Coast Guard Base with high-speed jet-propelled motorboats (MOTORBOAT), and 1000-horsepower snow machines (SNOWMOBILE), And helicopters (CHOPPER)-armed with heat sensors (BEEPING, SLOWLY ACCELERATING).

GK: It's a dangerous game of cat and mouse—and we entrust it to the U.S. Coast Guard, who is always there when we need them, and right now we need them in Minnesota. The Rainy Lake Inland Coastguard Base Station. Think about it, 4-Star Admiral Thad W. Allen and Master Chief Charles Bowen. Get back to us when you can.

30. Last time I went up north, the Hoser border guard sure thought I did.

She wasn't very friendly about it either. Actually had to park the car and go inside to talk to the Mounties for a couple minutes.

Oddly enough, I crossed back into the US on the Victoria - Port Angeles ferry (Where they actually DID catch a terrorist in 1999) and nobody had a problem with my good old ordinary drivers license. Of course that was before Chimpy made it worse for everyone, and now I think they are trying to make passports mandatory. Though Washington state now has an "enhanced" drivers license which serves the same purpose. It also costs twice what the regular drivers license does, but far less than a passport. Probably going to get one when I have to renew the license next summer, because I don't anticipate leaving this continent any time in the near future, so who needs a passport?

(Unless McCain steals the election. Then all bets are off. Or if Rossi steals this state.. then I'll probably move to a state not taken over by nazis.)

18. Dad born in USA; Mom born and raised in Canada; me born here
So I've traveled to Canada on a regular basis through my life.

I have a passport already; to me it is simply no big deal, just another piece of id I have to carry, like my driver's license if I want to drive myself there.

I think there should be a way reduced fee for passports, make 'em as cheap to get as a license from the DMV to drive. But other than cost, for me a non-issue.
