We are officially fucked!
It doesn't matter if the Dems "caved in" (no surprise there) or whether the repukes gave a little (not likely) or if this was some sweet little "bipartisan" deal (puh...fucking leese)we are screwed, because no matter how you slice it, we are gonna pay for it with our tax money. 750 gadzillion whatevers is just the tip of the proverbial iceburg and when (not if) this thing fails, guess who is going to get blamed? No, not the Clintons. Try again.

24. May I offer a
:toast: to everyone who agrees!!

And let's pass that caviar and champagne around, okay?

My only question is - do we get some of the bailout money if we claim how we used to be bankers and had our assets taken on accunt of those silly impoverished low income subprime people who bought homes????

4. Look at it this way..
The government will be buying mortgage assets that they hope to be able to resell to recoup the money.

That means they have to go back up in value.

If they DON'T go up in value, or even worse drop further, it means the economy is completely FUCKED TO HELL, and we're all doomed anyway.

So this is probably the best we're gonna get. At least we'll have a new President and some Congressional oversight before the majority of the money is released.

14. Who says they have to go up? Most of these assets today aren't worth anything near
what the original borrower paid for them. Many of the houses that have been vacated have been stripped of anything of value from plumbing, to wiring and fixtures. Who is going to pay to replace these items in order to get fair value for the homes? Who is going to maintain the homes for the next 8 to 15 years before the market turns around? Home maintenance costs a great deal of money.

even the AP said UP TO...

I know most folks didn't read the damn bill, but still

Some of us have posted the DIRECT link in legalese

:banghead:

And yes I blame the media for not splaining this well

Or a few other details that I hope are still in there... such as the recoup mechanism

I guess this present generation would have called FDR nuts as well... when his administration did something similar (massive intervention that is)

And the plan (from what we have seen, is quite Keynseian

I know, speaking french here

17. The FDR plans put money directly in the public's hands.
This allows the same thieving dirtbags who got us here to pack for Dubai and live well, while we deal with a devalued dollar, skyrocketing inflation, and high interest rates, all due to the so-called bailout, more properly known as the No Billionaire Left Behind.

The assets we're buying will be unoccupied homes, left to rot, and pieces of paper, which were nothing to start with.

Well, I've been poor before. I just didn't think I would die that way....

26. ever since '73 Peace Corps in N. West Africa Drought Relief i have expected to starve to death. PTSD
that is what the ReThugs are all about... genocide of the opposition

i was awakened to the Strauss connection thru http://www.insider-magazine.com/ChristianMafia.htm to the NeoCons.. lots of Reagan/Bu$h41/Bu$h43 cabinet members were Leo Strauss Disciples in college, studded under him.

but only recently did i discover Strauss es connection to the Diminionists.. Palin is unDoubtedly a Diminionist, has a close relationship with them and Joel's Army advocates which is why she was chosen.. no doubt, ...why else.???

http://doggo.tripod.com/doggchrisdomin.html
"..snip...Leo Strauss was born in 1899 and died in 1973. ... He is most famous for resuscitating Machiavelli and introducing his principles as the guiding philosophy of the neo-conservative movement. ... More than any other man, Strauss breathed upon conservatism, inspiring it to rise from its atrophied condition and its natural dislike of change and to embrace an unbounded new political ideology that rides on the back of a revolutionary steed, hailing even radical change; hence the name Neo-Conservatives.

Significantly, Dominionism is a form of Social Darwinism.<48> It inherently includes the religious belief that wealth-power is a sign of God’s election. That is, out of the masses of people and the multitude of nations, wealth, in and of itself, is thought to indicate God’s approval on men and nations whereas poverty and sickness reflect God’s disapproval.

(It was not until I read this article that I realized that this is a fundamental tenet of Dominionists.

Worldly wealth and power are signs of God's favor -- to attempt to limit or decrease one's wealth and power is to disrespect God.

On the contrary, God's elect on Earth are called upon to increase their wealth and power.

It is not sufficient for a man to be a millionaire, or for a country to have sovereignty within its borders -- a man must strive to increase his wealth as much as possible, and a Dominionist government's behavior toward its neighbors must be "invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity".

Furthermore, any attempt to decrease a person's or a country's wealth and power -- to take from the rich to give to the poor, to reduce military spending and power -- is a direct attack on God.)

If “Secular Humanists are the greatest threat to Christianity the world has ever known,” as theologian Francis Schaeffer claimed, then who are the Humanists? According to Dominionists, humanists are the folks who allow or encourage licentious behavior in America. They are the undisciplined revelers.

Put all the enemies of the Dominionists together, boil them down to liquid and bake them into the one single most highly derided and contaminated individual known to man, and you will have before you an image of the quintessential “liberal” -- one of those folks who wants to give liberally to the poor and needy -- who desires the welfare and happiness of all Americans -- who insists on safety regulations for your protection and who desires the preservation of your values -- those damnable people are the folks that must be reduced to powerlessness -- or worse: extinction.

What would a “reconstructed” America look like under the Dominionists? K.L. Gentry, a Dominionist himself, suggests the following “elements of a theonomic approach to civic order,” which I strongly suggest should be compared to the Texas GOP platform of 2002, which reveals that we are not just talking about imaginary ideas but some things are already proposed on Republican agendas.<60> Dominionism’s concept of government according to Gentry is as follows:

“1. It obligates government to maintain just monetary policies ... fiat money, fractional reserve banking, and deficit spending.

“2. It provides a moral basis for elective government officials. ...

“3. It forbids undue, abusive taxation of the rich. ...

“4. It calls for the abolishing of the prison system and establishing a system of just restitution. *...

“5. A theonomic approach also forbids the release, pardoning, and paroling of murderers by requiring their execution. ...

“6. It forbids industrial pollution that destroys the value of property. ...

“7. It punishes malicious, frivolous malpractice suits. ...

“8. It forbids abortion rights. ... Abortion is not only a sin, but a crime, and, indeed, a capital crime.”<61> ..snip..."

lines 1./2./3. explain why Bu$h refused to negotiate lowering CEO's wages below $1,000,000 A MONTH. and proves to me his Dominioist connection. why do they all vote while Goose Stepping together... maybe it isn't blackmail, maybe they are just afraid of the Dominionists

13. It has to happen eventually
There is no solution to America's financial ills at this point. This is nothing but a desperate attempt to slow it down. It will work, but only for so long.

The American economy is going to cave eventually. It's built on too much luxury to be sustainable. The taxpayers will get the bill eventually, whether we bail these companies out or not. It's just a matter of when, and what we're paying for.

I personally am against this bailout because I would rather like to see the economy shrivel now, rather than later. But in the end, the $9 trillion in debt has to be paid for, and an extra 700 billion isn't going to prolong that too much.

If it means a recession, Americans can handle it. To all the people saying it's 1929, please remember that there isn't a massive drought, and we now have the FDIC. No depression, no food shortages; just no new laptop, and no car. Maybe cancel your satellite subscription.

22. The underlying problem remains. Too many overpriced, vacant houses and ...
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 01:34 AM by TahitiNut
... a working class that's been screwed for years and increasingly unable to afford them. MORE mortgages will go into default and result in MORE foreclosures and MORE people will lose their jobs and be unable to relocate to any other job, unable to sell their home on a market flooded with homes, until they actually lose their home.

EVERY homeowner will watch as housing prices DROP another 25%! Homeowner's equity will disappear in the greatest rape of the working class since 1929. Rental properties will go belly up as well and landlords will find they're unable to cover their own mortgage costs with rental prices dropping. Residential construction industries will fail. Realtors will close up shop all over the country. This housing 'bubble' has been pumped up by sub-primes for YEARS and the piper will be paid ... by the working class.

It ain't over ... not by a long shot.

25. I fear you are way too accurate in your assessment.
The next few years are going to be incredibly rocky. Our downward spiral is still gaining momentum and it will take a VERY concerted effort to reverse the trend. And, as we all know, it sure as hell won't occur with another GOP installed government.

There is a huge burden resting on the Democrats and its leadership team.
