Is anybody else watching C-Span?

I think it may be a good bill. Maybe the best that could be done in our current circumstances.

3. Then let's give it some debate time.
Give us a chance to get some other options on the table before e commit $700B+

6. Fine. $250B. Is there a reason not to put it up for debate?
Dems and Repubs marked it up, but this is still a plan from Bush and Paulson.

Shouldn't we encourage investigating some other ideas, too?

7. No it is not Paulson's plan, nor bush
this is Senator Dodd's plan

And so far there is plenty of protection

the bill reminds me of one thing... the New Deal

Bush\Paulson was THREE pages

Oh and the republican is lying having read OTHER incarnations of this... ACORN was never mentioned in the bill at any stage of the game

11. No, it's a modification of the Bush/Paulson plan.
It's their "solution" with restrictions tacked on. At NO time have there been open debates nor has there been an opportunity to propose alternative solutions.

Can we buy the actual mortgages instead of derivatives? Can we use the $250B, or $350B, or $700B to provide a stimulus to counter the supposed economic issues? Might it be better to temporarily federalize lending to insure credit liquidity, let the weak banks fail to cull the herd, and then spin off new private banks at a later date?

We KNOW that this will be an inflationary pressure. Under normal circumstances the Fed can just raise interest rates to curb inflation, but doing so now would effectively kill whatever benefits this legislation might have. As a result, we KNOW that this will increase inflation.

What we DON'T know is whether this will do enough to get us out of the woods (since it's just a band-aid that doesn't address the root cause of the problem, I'm comfortable emphatically stating that it won't).

So, we're left with a plan that we KNOW will hurt us, but might not solve any problem. That's bad legislation...but the real scandal is that we're insisting on dealing with this problem without looking at all of the alternatives.

No good will come of this.

19. I have. Tell me how it's not just Bush/Paulson with a lot of added language.
The last 9 days have been expanding on a 2 1/2 page document. Yes, they made changes.

However, it's all being approached from that one angle. It's like a group of doctors looking at a sick patient. Normally, different treatment options would be considered...medical, surgical, therapeutic, lifestyle change...but the Bush/Paulson plan called for surgery, so we're just debating about the size of the scalpel. We've refused to look at other treatment options.

...and the worst part of it is that we're not even sure that surgery will work. Forget about whether it's the best option, it might not work at all.

20. We part company here
since this is NOT the paulson plan... at all

And it is NO guarantee that this will work

I give up... I truly do

:walks away ... thinking why bother?:

Let it fail, that is the best thing it could happen to this country.. yep, everybody is right... just like the 75% who wanted TO GO to war back in the day...

I give up...

Perhaps should just ask to be removed from the rolls, why bother anymore?

21. I didn't suggest that we just "let it fail". I suggested that we look at all of the options.
Why do you take issue with that?

22. I don't take issue
spent many hours trying to explain things, obviously my failure

I spent hours debating this

To no use

I'd rather spend my time where it is productive... and that is by doing my job as a citizen

As to other solutions, yes... they were given... they were considered

And this is not a crisis that emerged LAST WEEK

But I truly give up...

We eggheads are despised... I know that... and at this point I am just amazed by how this is happening... and yes their guilt is in NOT splaining this to the people

NO BILL IS EVER PERFECT... NO BILL

But I give up... I truly do

That is all

I know where my time can be used in a more creative fashion

And as to the 100+ economist, most of them are chicago boys, friedman students, why they DO NOT want this massive intervention... but facts don't matter

By the way, Krugman is Keinseian... so am I... and he also said the same thing I have said as well, this is not perfect... but it is MUCH BETTER and it will need fixing

But I give up... I truly do...

I will now log out, I think, why bother?
