I heard something new in the anti-choice argument
Edited on Mon Sep-29-08 05:44 PM by JonLP24
What started this while at work I heard a couple of people talking "You know what Obama is really saying when he says change?" "Come help a n- get elected" I didn't jump in til he said "Obama is stupid" Wait a minute I said, "He graduated from Columbia and Harvard, he is not stupid" He says "It's not about that Obama has no experience and he hasn't gotten anything done" Now as a Senator he casts alot of votes, I won't even say McCain has never gotten anything done even though it's been the wrong things I named the first thing that came to my mind which was to co-sponsor legislation that showed government spending online He says "Big deal, that Sarah Palin has done some much for Alaska." I said "She has LESS experience then Obama!!!" I stated that she campaigned for the "bridge to nowhere" and found the term offensive herself, then turns around and campains on that lie.

Though this was the deal breaker for me, as I was convinced I was arguing with a lost cause. I said she opposes abortion even if she gets raped, you know what he told me? "If she doesn't want the baby she can always put it up for adoption." I couldn't say no more, I was convinced he can't be swayed.

1. I've run into hopeless morons like that myself...
and I've learned that it's not even worth wasting your breath or time on them.

2. Yes, when he crossed the line of "reason"
There was nothing I could say to convince him otherwise.

7. That's good
I know so many of you DUers would've handled it better then me with stronger talking points. I've been going over in my mind of better things to say such as a longer list of Obama's accomplishments, McCain's accomplishments as lobbying for Boeing to DHL resulting in Ohioians losing their jobs or turning our home state of Arizona into a right to work state. Also Palin's charging victim's for test kits as well as a host of lies told on a daily basis.

4. The GOP know they have trapped themselves in a corner.
They are desperate and dangerous.

No one can reason with them.

They know their party has betrayed them and can't bring themselves to place the blame where it belongs; they are relying on old talking points.

5. Some people vote their fears, not their hopes.
And some people are scared of their own shadows.

6. Let's see....He sponsored bills on ethics reform, loose nukes, mental health care for veterans.
And about 35 other bills. He also taught constitutional law for 12 years. Ask that genius if she knows that it's the _Constitution_ that the president/VP swears "to preserve, protect, and defend." Ask her what Sarah Palin has said, if anything, about how she would fulfill this oath.

You don't have to waste your breath with this ignorant person. But always feel free to leave Republican voters with something to think about. If you want to get really visceral, tell them that Sarah shoots defenseless animals from airplanes, and that she would force 12 year old girls to HAVE BABIES. I do not allow anyone to disparage my candidate and get away scot free.

8. No one is anti-abortion -
they're anti-choice.

The people like the one you dealt with are the ones who do not want women to have a choice about what happens to their bodies. Sarah Palin made her choice, but she'd forbid others from making a choice that might be different than hers. (Parenthetically, shouldn't a 44 year old woman know something about birth control?)

We're all anti-abortion, but some of us are pro-choice. Be careful with the language - it's very powerful. Don't let them paint you as "pro-abortion," because no one is pro-abortion - we're in favor of choice.

9. You're exactly right. I apologize for poor choice of words
I personally hate the term "pro-life" because the ones that are "pro-choice" also support sex-ed, contraceptives, abstinence, etc.

10. This is absolutely nothing new...
...remember, these people are pro-pregnancy, not pro-life. They do not care what happens to a child once it is born, as long as the fetus is carried to term. It's a way to maintain power over women.

Their take on it is that life begins with conception, so killing an unborn child is murder no matter how that child is conceived. They often cite statistics which indicate that pregnancy resulting from rape or incest are so low, it's a non-issue, not taking into account that victims of rape or incest wouldn't necessarily want to put that information down on a survey.

14. I agree
I regret not saying more, I was at a job site and it all happened pretty fast with the supervisor telling us to "shut up" once we got into it.
