The CIA briefed Cheney that Andrea Mitchell was investigating
the intelligence used to justify going into Iraq? I'm not certain if I heard the subject of the story correctly, but I did hear that there was testimony today in the Libby Scooter trial about this. Sounds like the CIA was conducting domestic surveillance, if you ask me. Just why would this info go to the VP, anyways?

1. We all know that the reason for wiretapping
was to keep tabs on democrats and anti-war groups and the press. bush needed the information so rove could screw dems over in the election.

2. You think the CIA told Cheney about Mitchell investigating?
Seems to me that with the kind of town DC is that Andrea Mitchell probably talked to someone who then passed it on until it got to Cheney.

I honestly don't see it.

3. Sorry, but I do

I remember during the reign of the bugman, when other Republicans were on the floor discussing alternatives to a DeLay directive, he always seemed to appear, they said
it was almost as if he had speed-dial to the psychic hotline, maybe they just kept
tabs on everybody from journalists to other political figures so they could micromanage
everybody. Do you find this so hard to believe from the crew that outed a covert
agent for political payback for someone who followed his conscience and told the
truth about lead up to the Iraq War.

6. It makes no sense to me...
but I'm not one to make huge leaps like this unless I had facts to back it up.

12. Here's an article that I posted from my journal

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman loves to remind visitors of Sin City's oh-so-discreet tagline: "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." But since the New Year's celebrations ringing in 2004, he has had to modify the motto. Fearing a terrorist attack, the FBI descended on casinos, car rental agencies, storage warehouses, and other Las Vegas businesses with sheaves of "national security letters" demanding financial records covering about 1 million revelers. Startled business owners who questioned the action were told they had one choice: cough up their documents or wind up in court.

This has not gotten much coverage in the press, but 1 million people partying in
Las Vegas had their financial records searched by the FBI. Still think that
it is such a leap of faith that the government is eavesdropping on
everyday people, go to the link and see. It's from business week, hardly a bastion of moonbat crazies.

it is entirely possible and extremely likely.

Furthermore, if it was testimony in a trial, it's not DC gossip.

11. This was testimony today at Libbey's trial
AS far as I can tell, the testimony keeps opening up new cans of worms way more important than Libbey's perjury. Apparently the prosecution is trying to establish that Cheney was running the cover-up and making it the most important thing on his agenda in order to show that there was no way that Libbey could have forgotten who said what when. It's also a nice way to put the VP on trial without having to bring him to the court house.

that Cheney is still in office.

9. A simpler explanation?
Perhaps Mitchell sought information from the CIA and thereby tipped them off that she was looking. Its still scary how fast Cheney learned. They must be using the government to keep track.
