Will the bailout pass in the Senate?
I haven't a clue. I know my Senator Pat Leahy is undecided, as is Sherrod Brown. Bernie's against it. Clinton, Obama, McCain, Reid are for it. So is Coleman and Voinavitch. Don't know where other Senators stand.

1. I hope not, Cali
I know something needs to be done, but not this way. And I am speaking as someone who lost 300 grand from our 401k's in two days. Nothing left for retirement except paltry retirement checks that won't even cover minimal health care. And I still don't want this "bailout"

30. I hope not four...we must ask Sen Cantwell to Filabuster this bill
one small fact they forgot to mention.. this bill will allow Paulson to buy back bad paper from foreign Banks.... CHINA mainly. This money will never see the credit markets in the U.S. As usualy... Bush is wagging the dog. Call Sen Cantwell and tell her to Filibuster this bill tonight so there is no vote...

2. Claire McCaskill is voting for the bailout.
================
http://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/stories/2008/09/29/daily23.html

It stinks, but the alternative stinks more.”

McCaskill said the Senate plans to vote Wednesday night on several pieces of proposed legislation, including “making our financial system work again.”

“The gears are frozen in the economy right now because there’s no lending going on, or it’s at inflated interest rates,” she said.

“I’ll hold my nose” and vote for the Senate bill, she said.
====================

I agree with her that the bailout stinks.

However, I don't believe that it's better give Bush $700 billion than to wait until we have a new president to act, just because some borrowers are being charged high interest rates.

3. Cross your fingers- I hope so
because people still think this is about the stock markets and fat cats- which its not. It's about the credit markets, keeping companies doing business and keeping people employed.

There'll be plenty of time to go nail fat cats and pas other measures under an Obama administration- but I'd rather see that done better economic conditions than what will occur if we don't act now.

So would Obama.

13. If Congress spent the money on a public works project...
...more people would be employed at good wages, they would pay their mortgages and spend money at small business which would help the employees there to pay their mortgages.

Buying Wall Street's worst products isn't the best way to help the economy.

Although a new WPA may be what we get, if the credit markets aren't stabilized and very, very soon.

4. It will. They'll have enough GOPers on board. They're not as knee-jerk
reactive to phone calls and public pressure as the House.

15. The House and the Senate play different roles.
The Senate is a bit more removed from the "will of the people" than the House. That's just the nature of the two bodies, that's why they have different rules for passing legislation.

24. No--they serve different but necessary roles. The Senate is supposed to be
the "check", the brakes, against we the people suddenly deciding shit on popular whim.

29. Well, I don't have any cash to give them
but it just so happens that very soon, I'll most likely be the not-so-proud owner of a whole bunch of "toxic debt" that they tell me will be worth a WHOLE lot of money in a few years. Since these things are sure to generate a huge profit, they should be very grateful to me for donating them to their campaign.

28. sure, but that doesn't mean that they should let the people dictate
how they should vote. And yeah, I'm against this legislation, but I didn't vote for my Senators to follow public opinion, but to vote based on their best judgment.

5. I faxed Boxer and Feinstein
first thing this morning to voice my opposition. DiFi is a virtual Thug, so I hold little hope for her not supporting it with everything she's got - her husband probabaly stands to make a billion off of it. But Boxer - I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

12. I'm guessing that will go down in flames, (which is what will happen to the entire economy
if any bill passes) and they will actually pass tax cuts.
