A political scientist at a Christian college in New York City warns that if Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama loses the election on November 4, race riots could break out in large U.S. cities.

A recent Associated Press-Yahoo News poll suggested Senator Obama's race could cost him up to six percentage points on election night. David Corbin, a politics professor at The King's College, contends there is potential for public riots the night of or after the election, if Obama's lead in the polls does not translate into victory.

"I don't think that's something that we've looked at very closely, and I think that this could be a powder keg here as we get towards that day, given that Senator Obama is an African-American and given that there might be some backlash if he actually loses," Corbin explains.

Corbin notes that seemingly small stories involving O.J. Simpson and Rodney King have brought into play terrible riots in major cities across the U.S. "I think a lot of people are looking to an Obama presidency to affirm the notion that somehow Americans aren't racist and, if for some reason Senator Obama loses, then it's just, 'Oh well, it's said and done. We must be a racist nation,'" Corbin adds.

People who fuel that claim of racism, according to Corbin, do damage to one of Senator Obama's main themes -- moving beyond a red-and-blue, or black-and-white America.

A riot seems like a reasonable reaction and the human race will likely be involved.

I pictured big crowds of people in the streets running the 100 yard dash. I finally figured out what they meant. Of course, I was always looking for the "colored people" that my grandmother constantly referred to. I was expecting to see people with wild multicolored rainbow pigmentation. I finally figured out that she was talking about black people, so for a while I thought that the blacks must have this wild rainbow patterned pigmentation underneath their clothes.

The ensuing outrage and upheaval will be in many forms and will last a long time. It will not be about color and if TPTB try to make it look like a racial issue it will backfire big time.

I, like Stephen Colbert, do not see race. But I do see Republicans. And if Obama gets robbed, I will be stalking some Republicans.

That's the fact that should shut the GOP up.

There are so many strategic benefits to an Obama presidency from the perspective of the powerholders in this country. Rightly or wrongly, his election would defuse much anti-US sentiment in the developing countries, and would likely get many marginalized social groups to "buy in" to the political system as established. A McCain presidency would very likely be an extension of the Bush presidency in terms of US influence, etc.

Take it right back to them. :grr:

They're afraid that if he wins, there will be riots of jubilation, complete with vandalism and looting, like when a sports team wins a major title--followed by four years of poor unfortunate white folk being treated like second-class citizens while blacks rule the country.

Yet, if he loses, they're terrified of angry riots, complete with vandalism and looting.
