A very important message from Harry Truman
The underlying differences between the Republican and Democratic Parties boils down to a very simple thing. The Republicans believe that the power of the Government should be used, first of all, to help the rich and privileged people of this country. With them property comes first. The Democrats believe that the powers of the Government should be used to give the common man some protection, and a chance to make a decent living. With the Democrats the people come first.

The Democratic Party is a political organization that has a heart--it cares about the people--it cares about all the people, rich and poor alike. The Republican Party is ruled by a little group of men who have calculating machines where their hearts ought to be.

Sometimes the Republicans aid their clientele by special favors--like the rich man's tax cut bill which was passed by the 80th Congress over my veto--or like their attempts to give away the Nation's oil resources to all the big oil interests.

Sometimes the Republicans aid their special friends by doing nothing--by a philosophy of each man for himself and the devil take the hindmost. That's why they've fought such measures as minimum wage laws, social security, and the protection of the right of labor unions to organize. All these things and others like them have been opposed by the Republicans.

---Harry S Truman

2. Harry Truman
He was the first president I was aware of as a child, prompted by my politically active grandmother. For all the venom spewed at him, he was a very enlightened man for a hat salesman from Missouri.

12. He was still alive and living not far from me when I was a kid
He often took walks around Independence and people would talk about seeing him out and about. He was much loved here.

And McTemper disgraced Harry today by appearing at the Truman Library in Independence. Invitation only - it was an intimate event: http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/14738

But Michelle Obama was here too and she drew 3000.

5. There's just one problem
The Dems seem to be forgetting to care about people- they're enjoying the money and power too much.

9. Give 'em hell Harry!
He was able to cut to the chase and spell it out in simple terms in a simpler time. The words ring true today, but are drowned out by the chatter of modern political discourse. The Republicans are out to help the rich. True in 1890, 1907, 1929, 1980, and today.

11. Makes a person kind of nostalgic. The kind of Democrats that Truman was talking about are LONG gone.
The corporate pod people that have replaced them get away with all kinds of shit because people mistakenly still believe that the Democratic party Truman was describing still exists.

Sorry. With just a bare handful of exceptions -- Kaptur, Kucinich, Feingold, Boxer, Wexler -- the Democrats are just as beholden to the Owner Class as the Repugs.

16. Can he be resurected to ensure his prophetic discription of how the policies
of the republican mantra is trully a destructive force for the average american citizen and in that respect there is no God that can or will take time out of his or her daily penance to protect the innocent from such harm..thats fact..history and present day attrocities proves me right.
