US superpower status is shaken
Source: BBC News

The financial crisis is likely to diminish the status of the United States as the world's only superpower.

On the practical level, the US is already stretched militarily, in Afghanistan and Iraq, and is now stretched financially.

On the philosophical level, it will be harder for it to argue in favour of its free market ideas, if its own markets have collapsed.

the USA could be seen as wise - not weak, not strong - but, one nation undivided, and wise.

I don't want this to have been a pipe dream. I don't want to think in terms of who is our enemy.

Speaking after talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in St Petersburg, Mr Medvedev said the world needed a "more just" financial system.

I mean, if you really want to invalidate what is for most people a life changing event, then by all means proceed.

By the way, they've found snow on Mars. I remember when they weren't sure what the moon was made of.
