Dean has been meeting with world leaders to repair "the extraordinary damage" done by Bush

The New Dean Political Plan

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean has been meeting with world leaders to repair "the extraordinary damage" that the Bush administration has done to America's image and to prepare the way for a new Democratic president.

"I am trying to build relationships with other governments in preparation for a Democratic takeover," Dean told me. "I want to make clear that there is an opposition in America and that we are ready to take power and that when we do, we are going to have much better relationships with them."

In an hour-long interview at Democratic National Committee headquarters Tuesday, Dean also revealed that he has been quietly meeting with well-known Christian evangelical leaders in order to build new bridges between them and the Democratic Party.

"We're never going to convince them on civil rights for gay people or abortion rights," Dean said. "But we certainly can focus on the things that we both care about a lot: global warming, poverty and the materiality of our culture."

20. But, we can't negotiate with anybody else!
Iran might not have our best interests at heart, so it is fruitless to negotiate with them. North Korea might not either. So, no negotiating with them.

at least is the Republican mantra I've heard.

26. I got a silly philosophy
Negotiate til the cows come home, then negotiate some more. It beats gallons of blood spilled. I can understand republicans not wanting to negotiate since its not their strongsuit, but surely they have discovered by now that they suck at warfare too.

15. I agree. But another consultant is out after him now...to replace him with Harold Ford.
Remember when Carville said he wanted to do that? Now it is someone else. They need to just shut up.

12. Great interview. I LOVE this answer:
When I asked him if Republicans would always be seen as tougher than Democrats when it came to national defense, he said: "It is possible to be tough without filling Walter Reed with 12,000 wounded kids and then not taking care of them."

16. I really Love Howard Dean
Sincere affection and gratitude for someone I'll never ever meet. I remember his being one of the first few brave voices in 2002 and early 2003. He was against the Iraq War before it began and he was fearless in attacking the White House when others cowed and calculated.

Since then there hasn't been a single thing he has done or said as a candidate and later the DNC chairman that I haven't agreed with if not celebrated. This initiatie shows vision and courage and creativity. Once again he gives me hope when I didn't think it was possible.

He is a hero. A true patriot and we are so lucky to have him! :loveya: :patriot:

35. He gave me hope back then
I used to go to these tiny little Dean rallies just to be among other people who thought Bush was a frightening mistake, back when he could Do No Wrong among 90% of the population ("Thank God HE was President on 9/11!!!")

He was saying back then what 70% of the country is saying now, back when people were seriously questioning the sanity and patriotism, and even right to speak of anyone who wasn't rallying behind the Idiot in Chief. No calculation, no politicizing, just the Truth, unvarnished, when most people did NOT want to hear it.

:patriot:

Diplomacy is such a lonely word.
Everyone is so untrue.
Diplomacy is hardly ever heard.
But it's mostly what we get from you.

My apologies to Billy Joel.

I :loveya: Dean!

32. The Republicons talked to foreign nations too
Nixon was secretly conspiring with North Viet Nam to keep the war going.
Reagan was secretly conspiring with the Iranians to delay the hostage release.
And we know the Bush* crime family was in secretly bed with Osama before his appointment.
the Doctor is out in the light of day, saying what our friends must be hoping to hear.
If we're real lucky, our new American Century won't include any more one party Republicon rule.
