12. 'Maverick' trivia:
Maury Maverick, a Democratic congressman from Texas, coined the word "gobbledygook."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maury_Maverick#cite_note-1

Sarah Palin, a Republican governor from Alaska, speaks gobbledygook.

So, to review:

Maverick + big state + oil = gobbledygook

13. I grew up knowing some of the Mavericks
Maury's son was a very serious Quaker. They are a huge family and I bet a lot of them aren't pleased about McCain's use of their name.

19. "A “maverick” is an unbranded calf or yearling, and is anybody’s for the taking."
That is what the web site with this picture

says and I think they have it right!

# Calf or yearling: Senator McCain is 72 years old.
# Unbranded: Senator McCain has voted with President George W. Bush over 90 percent of the time.
# Anybody’s for the taking: You decide. Really. Take a look. No kidding.

Well, one out of three . . . .

21. Actually, no. Neither one.
This is the real Maverick:

Samuel Maverick

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Samuel Augustus Maverick (July 23, 1803–September 2, 1870) was a Texas lawyer, politician, land baron and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. From his name comes the term "http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/maverick">maverick", first cited in 1867, which means independent minded. Maverick was considered independent minded by his fellow ranchers because he refused to brand his cattle.<1> In fact, Maverick's failure to brand his cattle had little to do with independent mindedness, but reflected his lack of interest in ranching.<1> He is the grandfather of U.S. Congressman Maury Maverick, who coined the term http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gobbledygook">gobbledygook(1944).
