ANCHORAGE: An Alaska judge has refused to block a state investigation into whether Governor Sarah Palin abused her power when she fired her public safety commissioner.

Judge Peter Michalski yesterday threw out the lawsuit filed by five Republican state legislators who said the investigation was manipulated to damage Ms Palin before the presidential election.

"It is legitimately within the scope of the legislature's investigatory power to inquire into the circumstances surrounding the termination (of) a public officer the legislature had previously confirmed," the judge ruled.

The probe is looking into whether Ms Palin, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, and others pressured Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire a state trooper who was involved in a divorce from Ms Palin's sister and then fired Mr Monegan when he refused to sack the trooper. Ms Palin says Mr Monegan was ousted over budget disagreements. snip

The independent investigator, Steven Branchflower, still plans to report his findings by Friday. His report will not include the testimony of Ms Palin's husband, Todd, and several top aides who refused to appear.

jonathan turley was on the rachel maddow show yesterday and said they were ignoring a constitutionally issued subpoena. never before in an election has a president or vice-president run while ignoring a subpoena.

since karl rove is on the payroll, i guess it's what i would expect.

5. Hell, there's a front page above the fold story in THE NY TIMES TODAY
on Obama's fleeting relationship with a "radical" from the sixties! Obama was a CHILD when this guy was a radical but THE NY TIMES carries the Republican Party's water on this bullshit while Palin, her husband, and her aides ignore subpoenas in an Alaskan state investigation and we barely hear a single word!

Must be the "liberal press" we hear so much about.

8. Judge Michalski's decision
Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 09:52 AM by Blue_In_AK
was appealed to the state Supreme Court yeaterday by the lawyers for the disgruntled legislators. I can't wait for this election to be over so all of these McCain assholes will stop holding Alaska's government hostage. I've never seen anything like this (aside from the Bush administration, of course). The lawyers say that the issuance of Branchflower's report next Friday will cause "irreparable harm" to the people of Alaska. What?????

I don't know why this matter isn't getting more national press, but I'm doing the best I can here at DU to keep it in everyone's mind.

9. If any deomocrat did what Repugs did I would want investigations
We always ask, would they ignore a democrat doing something illegal. Of course not. But as a democrat with morals I would want them to investigate criminal wrongdoings of democrats. So because I would want to be fair, I would ask investigations from both parties. However, we live in the United States of Double Standards and Hypocrisy!
