Plot

Left-wing activist and filmmaker Michael Malone (a parody of Michael Moore) is campaigning to end the celebration of the Fourth of July. Malone truculently argues to the American people that America's past and present are offensive, and therefore should not be celebrated. Malone's nephew is a naval officer about to deploy to the Persian Gulf, and Malone treats him with contempt. Malone is then visited by three ghosts, Presidents George Washington and John F. Kennedy and General George S. Patton, who try to make him rethink his view of America. They try to show him that sometimes war is necessary for the greater cause. For example, Patton shows him an alternate world where slavery is still in existence because Lincoln chose not to fight the Civil War. He also shows the filmmaker how British Prime Minister Chamberlain appeased Adolf Hitler. Malone is also visited by the spirit of George Washington (played by Jon Voight) who takes him to the very church in New York where he was sworn in as the 1st President. Washington tells him how the dust in the church is the dust from the World Trade Center on 9/11. In the film's end, Malone is a changed man who loves America and realizes how precious freedom is.

Of course maybe it's because only Freepnuts are actually going to see this film to be able to comment on it. They're giving the film 9 to 10 stars and calling it the funniest thing they've ever seen. At least the reviewers have the honesty to call themselves conservatives for the most part and it looks like the ideological bent of the film is what they most admire.

At $10 bucks a ticket, that's 223 people per screen -- let's say we ignore Friday and just count that as 112 people per screen per day, and figure for at least 3 showtimes a day... maybe 37 people in each audience? :shrug: :rofl:

That's why so many people are having trouble finding Religulous!

The theaters made a bad call... too many screens for American Carol, too few for Religulous!

Lionsgate, which distributed Religulous is a small company and they probably took the correct strategy toward the movie. They open it up in a few major cities, focus their limited advertising budget in those markets, let the word of mouth spread, and then hopefully open it up wider in the coming weeks. That way if it's a big flop they don't lose their shirt.

American Carol's distributor, Vivendi Entertainment is basically a DVD distributor who is just getting into theatrical distribution. This is only the second movie they have released. They probably screwed this one up because the poor per-theater average definitely isn't going to lead to a wider release. If anything it will be in a fraction of the theaters next week and will disappear from theaters very quickly.

If they were smart, they should have done a limited release like Religulous. They could have opened it up in a few highly conservative college towns in red states and promoted the hell out of it on a local level to get some word of mouth going among freeper types.

The producers of the liberal-bashing satire An American Carol claimed Tuesday that they had received reports of "ticket fraud," and suggested that it could be the reason why the film's weekend box-office figures were so low.

On the film's official website, a notice asked those who attended the movie, "Please check your ticket. If you were in fact one of those people that were "mistakenly" sold a ticket for another movie please fill out the form below. Hold on to your ticket so we can have proof." The notice continued: "If you have noticed other irregularities with the theaters in your area please let us know in the comment section below. For instance, Rated R film rating (when in fact we are rated PG-13), posters not being up, not being listed on the marquee, image or focus problems, sound issues, etc." By today (Wednesday), the notice had been removed from the site but remained cached on Google.
