13. You ever see "it's a wonderfull life"?
The movie with Jimmy Stewart. The one they played at christmas 24 hours a day on every channel until NBC bought the rights to it? Remember that?

In that there was a run on the bank, and he didn't have everyone's money, because it was a Savings in Loan so he asked people to just take what they needed, instead of withdrawing all their funds. Some asshole took everything, and others took just what they needed to get by.

Well when economic experts say 'don't panic' they're being Jimmy Stewart standing up there in front of a paniced crowd saying "Relax. You'll all be ok, if you just don't panic. Don't sell all your investments, withdraw your cash from the bank, etc, or we're all screwed. Just don't panic."

That's what they mean. They mean if we panic as a group we're fucked, but if we don't panic we just might get through this.

17. It means nothing
Economics is nothing but voodoo that went to college.

The reality is that no one knows anything, the market is a joke made of Monopoly money, and whatever happens, happens.

30. True, true
On that, we agree. Hence, my assessment of it as Monopoly money. All the signs and portents are simple superstitious divining, without basis in reality.
