My Ridiculous Thought ...
...lately, is that this won't improve until Bush/Cheney and their administration are gone. I am no economist, political thinker, or prophet.

I just can't shake the idea that the psychology of this thing is about them. Thoughts?

1. I agree to some extent,
but I believe overall that things are so screwed up that it is going to take a very long time to unscrew the mess.

2. I know. But if McCain were to win...
...that could never happen, IMHO.

3. Not really, but they have certainly made the whole thing worse
and it will take a great deal of creativity to get out of this one.

What's happening in the market is the correction that should have been allowed to happen years ago and would have if Stupid hadn't bankrupted the country to throw money at people who'd reliably prop up an inflated market.

The other thing that's happening is the slow collapse of the derivatives market, something that is going to take a lot of institutional investors with it, something we've already started to see with brokerages failing first.

Derivatives were nothing but a bet. If the bet paid off, the derivative earned money. If it didn't, it didn't. However it was counted as an asset. At least three quarters of the world's wealth will evaporate with them.

Has bad as inflation is, deflation is going to be a lot worse, and that's what we're headed for.

13. They began in earnest in 1996
although they first popped up in 1994, initiated by hedge funds as a way to manage and exchange risk through the sale of derivatives based on what it was perceived to be.

4. I agree completely and the very next day after an Obama victory
America will lift up it's collective head and straighten it's shoulders and say finally. That very thing happened when Clinton was elected. The relief was instantanious and we did not look back. The very same thing will occur here and the Republicans will ionsist just as they did last time that it was all Bush's doing and just happened to come about with a Democratic victory..The whole world will revel in our victory

5. Then we are going to have to work very very hard for a decade
or two, trying to put right everything this miserable, belligerent philosophy hath wrought.

7. I sure hope you are right. I'm old enought to remember the ...
...Clinton election, but I just don't remember it being that bad in 1991. I do, however, think that the policy changes can only succeed if they are accompanied by a HUGE wave of optimism and action. Only Obama can bring that.

10. They are sadistic, Machiavellian, opportunistic businessmen.
They profit through destruction. They have ties into international business, which drive oil prices up and down at whim. They're hooked into the banks and stock market. They're trying to build US infrastructure using their own businesses, and allowing the ones in their way, to fail (requring a replacement: Hey, how about ours!?). Don't forget, never forget, they like torture. They let New Orleans drown, for fun (and to also work toward installing their corporations as replacements for the purposely mismanaged FEMA). They are pure capitalists, with no value on human life (except as fun to torture and control).

It won't end even when they're gone. Their power structure is firmly in place. I don't see Obama waving a magic wand and dismantling it, especially the overseas component.

Thankfully, some of it hasn't worked (Bolton in the UN, Wolfowitz in the World Bank). This trend may reflect an "undoing" effect, which would -allow- Obama the opportunity to further wedge it away. We'll see.

...if you haven't already. :) The sound is bad for the first couple of songs, but it gets better...
