Haditha Marine says would make same decision again

NEW YORK, March 15 (Reuters) - A U.S. Marine charged with murdering
18 unarmed civilians in Haditha, Iraq, said in an interview with CBS's
"60 Minutes" he regretted the deaths but would make the same decisions
today.

Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich admitted shooting five unarmed Iraqi men in
the back in the interview and said his actions were justified because
he believed the men had hostile intent toward the Marines.

"There is nothing that I can possibly say to make up or make well the
deaths of those women and children, and I am absolutely sorry it
happened that day," Wuterich said.

"What I did that day, the decision that I made, I would make those
decisions again today. Those are decisions that I made in a combat
situation and I believe I had to make those decisions."

1. What an asshole...May he rot in hell
War makes monsters of our children. There is no glory in killing innocents in anger.

3. He's an unrepentant murderer
and cold-blooded murder has nothing to do with the people who sent him there.

7. He was trained to kill people.
He carried out his training. Women and children are the enemey in Iraq according to him.

5. Where are the death penalty advocates now?
The ones that brag about how they'd like to perform the execution personally?

9. "I'm sorry *it* happened" but "I would do it again".
He would shoot unarmed men in the back again? This is a "combat decision"? Am I missing a point here?

11. Nnoli, he does live next door to you.
Where do you think they get young men like this, the zoo? This is the same monster that lurks in all of us--the same monster you would turn to if you had to protect your own child. These atrocities don't just happen because the wrong guy got into the right uniform. They're inevitabilities that we bank on not happening too much whenever old men decide to send young men out to get some more oil.

12. Speak for yourself, please
You don't know me and to shrug off this fellow's "I'd do it again" self-justification with "this same monster lurks in all of us" is simply nonsense. If you have that "monster" lurking inside you, the one that would shoot nine men in the back because you're feeling some vague sense of threat or you can stretch this to cover "protecting your own child", then God help you. I wouldn't want you moving into my neighborhood, either.
