"The display shows a bloody skeleton behind Obama..."
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Melissa Neese said she didn’t mean to cause a stir with the choice of Halloween decorations outside her Cherokee County home.

“It’s an election year and this is a great opportunity to show our patriotism,” said Neese.

Neese set up a lawn display with puppets resembling presidential candidates Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain.

The display shows a bloody skeleton behind Obama as he stands next to McCain.

“It’s kind of like the shadow of death behind Obama. We’re kind of more of McCain advocates,” said Neese.

4. Cherokee County....and Woodstock, GA... still host Klan rallies
on a frequent basis.... adjacent to Newt's old stomping ground, Cobb County.... So, is anyone surprised? Whew... there are white supremacist groups throughout the country (just check out the Southern Poverty Law Center's website to see the extent), but those in the deep south remain the most frightening to me.

Woodstock has no organized Klan activity that I know of. I answered in haste.

Acworth has a racist skinhead group, the Vinlanders. Cumming has an active Klan office, I believe, and has held Klan Rallies within my memory. Forsyth County also has an active chapter, also.

The Southern Poverty Law Center and ADL have interesting records on hate groups active in Georgia.

38. I accidentally drove into an active Klan rally in Woodstock
in the 1990s... If they have moved their activity to Acworth, I say yeah for the citizens of Woodstock, but don't kid yourself about a move a few miles away.

41. It is pervasive.
It would be naive to suggest there are no active members in *any* community down here, but I personally don't know of any organized efforts in Woodstock itself. There's certainly no evidence that the persons in the article are members of any organization, but it's pretty clear where their sentiments lie.

43. Cumming is in Forsyth County.
I used to live there...it's actually the county seat, as I recall. Are you saying there are two active klan chapters in Forsyth Co., one specifically in Cumming and one in the larger county, or is it actually the same group?

Please don't think I'm doubting anything you said, I'm just looking for a small clarification. I know what the general attitude of that area is and I wouldn't want to live there again. I went to my younger brother's graduation ceremony there last year and their continued, blindly arrogant support of Bush's "righteous" war was mind-blowing. Fear, bloodlust, and disgust for anyone who doesn't fit their religious, ideological, and ethnic mold seemed to run pretty strong there.

45. My mix-up
The Klan offices are in Cumming. I know of no other organization in Forsyth County. I meant to note Floyd County, and mistyped. There is a Klan office for Floyd County in Rome, GA.

It should be noted that these "Klan" affiliations are nominal; diverse organizations (albeit *all* hate-based) use the klan designator in their title. There are also many that don't in Georgia; Vinlanders is such a group, listed as a racist skinhead group by SPLC.

Georgia is, as it always has been, a festering sore on the nation's dignity.

or at least moved their rallies... They were quite open about them in the 90's.

22. Either that, or they're claiming he will somehow bring death with him.
Either way, it is morally reprehensible. And definitely not "funny," if that is the effect they finally claim they were intending for the display.
