1. Here's their phone number (police in St. Pete) CALL THEM!

Let them know that the whole world is watching.

Here are my notes on my conversation with the police there:

Officer Declet is the trainer there in St. Petersburg

I told him that this was destruction of private property. He said that they had been asked to move on before and they wouldn’t so they “confiscated” their tents and destroyed them when they wouldn’t move on.

I told him that two wrongs don’t make a right. It’s still destruction of personal property and against the law. He said that they had a legal tent city over in Clearwater. How far is that? 15 or 20 minutes by car. I asked him if he thought that people living in tents would have a car. He said that, if it were up to him, he would have handled it differently. Then I asked him what he would do, if he thought it was wrong. He didn’t answer.

I told him that I was a lady living in Texas, off of work right now, usually I would be relaxing and watching TV, but when I saw this video on Youtube, I took the time to find his number and call him to protest these actions. I told him that, as a police officer, he was held to a higher standard, so if a lady in Texas could do this, what was HE going to do, since he felt that it was wrong? He said that him going to the mayor’s office to lodge a complaint would be the same as me going, and I told him, no, he’s a police officer, it would mean much more if he went and lodged a complaint, than if some lady in Texas called on the phone. He agreed and gave me his word he would do that tomorrow. I told him that I would be checking on that.

Supervisor’s name: Major Bevan
