Anti-war nuns branded as ‘terrorists.’
Anti-war nuns branded as ‘terrorists.’

Sisters Carol Gilbert and Ardeth Platte have been “secretly branded by Maryland State Police as terrorists and placed on a national watch list” due to their participation in anti-war protest activities. They were added to the list after Maryland state police spied on them:

This term terrorist is a really serious accusation,” Sister Ardeth, a nun for 54 years, told The Washington Times on Thursday in the first interview that the women have given since being informed they were among 53 people added to a terrorist watch list in conjunction with an extensive Maryland surveillance effort of antiwar activists.

“There is no way that we ever want to be identified as terrorists. We are nonviolent. We are faith-based,” she said. <…> “Democracy is built on these elements on being able to speak out to speak what we believe is truth,” Sister Carol said.

The nuns said they were not involved in the protests that state police say they targeted. “The spying occurred during the administration of Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr., a Republican.”

4. Reagan's favorite "freedom fighters", the Contras, seemed to like to kill nuns
So nuns must be terrorists, right?

3. The nuns at the end of "Sound of Music" were terrorists, right?
They stripped the wiring of the motor of the Gestapo car to keep them from going after the Von Trap Family.

The lady on the left is Sister Jackie Hudson, another activist nun. Sister Carol Gilbert is in the center and Sister Ardeth Platte on the right.

I don't think you could hire these ladies to frighten children at a Halloween party.

9. These nuns are big-time threats to national security.
Heck, they've already served time in federal prison for non-violent action against the Iraq war for using their own blood to paint crosses on a missile silo! That's sooooooooooo dangerous to the security of the country!!11!!1!!!1

:sarcasm:, as if it weren't obvious.

Here's that story. They spoke at my seminary while their trial was pending. Very courageous people of faith--the kind of peaceful, selfless faith in action that a person like Palin couldn't be able to wrap her feeble little mind around. These Platte and Gilbert are heros, who, like Rev. MLK, can be jailed but their spirits can't be broken.

15. Show of hands, please, from everyone who didn't see this coming
I'd really like to see the question posed at the next debate, find out if either candidate agrees with calling anti-war nuns "terrorists," and putting them on state lists as enemies of the republic. I'm pretty sure I know what Obama would say. What would McCain or Palin say?

17. "terrorist"
What a preposterous word in the hands of the monkey-king and his minions.

Come to think of it the monkey-king is the height of preposterocity. And a maroon, into the bargain.

18. Liberals have always been their first and foremost targets, not "communists" or "terrorists"...

or any of the other boogie-men that have been used and discarded over the years by the GOP as instruments of self-advancement and policy.

We are the ones they hate the most. They have sided with the Taliban against liberals. They have sided with the Chinese government against liberals. They have sided with Saudi Arabia against liberals. Whenever there is a choice - we are the target. It doesn't matter who they need to side with, they will take the shot if they have it and they will aim for the kill. The Business Plot during the early 1930's proves just how far they will go and how long they have been at it. It is the key defining factor of conservatism in our political landscape.

The sooner progressive America and the Democratic party internalize this and act on it, the quicker we will turn this political superfund site into a proper functioning government again.

20. Even as a young child in the 60's and early 70's I could see the hypocrisy and malevolence in this
kind of crap. Spying on and labeling nuns as terrorists? How is it these people pass as sane? Never mind get into positions of power?
