Argentina plans reciprocal visitor fee

The interior minister says Argentina will soon charge visitors from the U.S. and 21 other countries a fee to enter the country.

The fee goes into effect Jan. 1 and will match what those countries charge Argentine tourists.

Although details have not been released, U.S. citizens will probably be charged $131, a fee that covers re-entry for 10 years. That's the equivalent of what the U.S. charges Argentine tourists.

-snip-

He said Wednesday that "it's not fair that they charge an Argentine traveling to Miami $131" and aren't charged anything in return.

3. We were charged
a twenty dollar exit fee to leave the BVI, I always thought that was weird.

Does anyone know why Argentinians are being charged? The article leaves a lot unsaid.

4. It's a normal US Visa application fee.
To add insult to injury they don't get refunded if the US Embassy refuses the visa.

6. So is it applied
to visitors from every country? Because I got the impression that the Argentines felt they were being singled out.

7. Obviously not everyone.
It's only for those citizens who require a visa to enter the US, which is basically everyone who is not rich and westernized.

Some countries take issue with this and apply the same reciprocal policies (e.g. Brazil only requires Americans to undergo fingerprints on entry), while others swallow their pride in the name of increased tourism.

It's stupid, but everyone wants to control their borders.

5. With Commerical Tariffs Dropping Like Flies,
can't they get an agreement on dropping these things that affect ordinary people?
