Brunswick’s recent announcement of temporary layoffs will affect the majority of the 1,070 workers in East Tennessee, including those at the Vonore plant.

Brunswick spokesman Daniel Kubera said both hourly and salaried employees will be affected by the layoffs. Employees will receive two weeks of pay and vacation pay and be able to draw unemployment before they could be called back in January.

Brunswick recently closed plants in Oregon, Minnesota and Washington. There are plans to close a fourth plant in North Carolina. The layoffs in Tennessee will begin Oct. 27.

The company is looking to resize and save $300 million in costs.

2. Sea Ray is a power boat maker
Boat gas is expensive, so that probably has a lot to go with it.

6. ah. thanks. it sounded familiar, but i could not place it.
:hi:

A buddy of mine works in a resin factory(?), and their business has taken a huge hit (running one shift now rather than three daily). They supplied resin(?) to boat makers and the market has taken a dive.

5. Around here, boats seem to be on every other front yard...
with a "For Sale" sign, and the business for new boats is tanking. The high price of gas at marinas, lousy fishing, and people just being stretched means the boat is one of the first things to go.

Sea Ray is one of those boatbuilders in the middle that's really getting crushed-- you can sell a really cheap boat, and you can sell a really expensive boat, but a Sea Ray isn't either cheap enough or good enough to sell in tough times.
