3. Called McCain's brownshirt supporters....
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 07:39 PM by Postman
"right-wing lunatics" and hammered McCain and Palin for not confronting the overt hostile behavior of their supporters.

Also took McCain to the woodshed for misquoting Congressman John Lewis's statements about George Wallace's stoking of hostility and the atmosphere the McCain/Palin rallies are creating....

5. Sweet sanity is still precious in this desert of bizarro world.
The rabble-rousing on the right smells even MORE dangerous to me than the "bad old days" (which I recall vividly). We're a hair's breadth away from some truly, deeply vile shit. (Maybe that's why the Combat Brigade was deployed stateside. It's planned.)

6. "Suspend your campaign until it ceases to be a CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER to the peace of this nation!
That what KO said ... to McInsane and Pailin'. Notice the phrase "clear and present danger"? No, it's not a Tom Clancy novel. It's the key phrase from a landmark SCOTUS decision regarding the limits of free speech.
"The question in every case is whether the words used are used in such circumstances and are of such a nature as to create a clear and present danger that they will bring about the substantive evils that the United States Congress has a right to prevent. It is a question of proximity and degree. When a nation is at war, many things that might be said in time of peace are such a hindrance to its effort that their utterance will not be endured so long as men fight, and that no Court could regard them as protected by any constitutional right."

-- Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. Schenck v. United States
