Seen the National Debt Clock lately? THAT is big government, and THAT is the legacy of 28 years of republican policies.

2. Whats wrong with big government
Majorities of the population want more government involvement in financial institutions, funding alternative energy, healthcare and education if you check opinion polls.

3. That's not nearly as "big" or expensive as conquering the world.
The things you describe are modest and fiscally responsible. The Bush adminstration, on the other hand, has been financially reckless beyond imagination.

5. We already have big government in Washington
Patriot Act, warantless wiretapping, punitive drug laws, corporate welfare, a massive bailout for the banks and insurance companies, a Medicare drug bill that was a giveaway to the drug companies.

I have more examples if you would like me to provide them.

sorting our e-mails and DU posts, to say nothing of all those phone calls I made to my mom, husband, kids and other family members and friends. What waste. How could anyone possibly be interested in all that nonsense? That's where our money has gone folks -- to assuage the paranoia of the Bushies.

My mind knows that there is a terrorist threat, but deep down, I sincerely believe that a united America can handle it better without the Bush paranoia than with it. The Bush administration has wasted unbelievable wealth on ridiculous Homeland Security Programs that don't make anyone a bit safer.

6. Hell, maybe just say that he's bringing -government- to Washington.
Lord knows the last eight years have seen a systemic dismantling and privatization of many of the governmental systems we used to take for granted. Look where that's gotten us!

11. Obama? "Bringing _back_ 'Big Government'.."...seriously???
After the $10BN / month craphole that is Iraq, and profligate spending and corporate giveaways that the Republican party have crafted, the idea that McWhatever can say that with a straight face is amazing.

12. When they say "Big Government", it is code...
By 'big Government', they really mean SOCIALISM...

It is my understanding that Governments sole purpose, is to protect its citizens for domestic or foreign ills; to prevent them as well.

Socialism, today, is not that of Nazi Germany or Stalin's Russia, those are only the extremes of the ideology. If Socialism was so wrong, it would have already failed in all the other industrialized countries that have implemented it.

Somethings should not be for profit; like Health Care and utilities. They should be nationalized to protect us from the capitalist greed.

I am not saying that everything needs to be nationalized, but certain things should be to protect the majority of citizens(middle class and poor) from a minority of greed.

People who hiss and spit about Socialism, are ignorant to its benefits that all other industrialized nations enjoy from it. The perks are well worth the slight increase in taxes; 4% increase and the draw back world be no more war mongering. The US is the only country still engaged in empire expansion.

Then I point out that the Iraq war is a $600 billion "government program".
