Authorities say four men lured a 24-year-old mentally disabled man from his Lakeville home to a remote Dakota County area, where they tortured him for hours on two days last weekend. Criminal complaints say the torture included tying him to a tree, beating him and burning him with cigarette lighters. His mother said she was told he also was tied to a motorcycle and dragged for 200 feet.

The torture ended after he was knocked unconscious and left for dead on the second day.

The four were charged Tuesday in connection with the incidents and were being held in the Dakota County jail. One of those charged is employed by a Northfield organization that works with disabled adults. Authorities say the motive for the assault may involve a 16-year-old girl whom the disabled man had recently befriended.

As Justin Hamilton recovers at home under close medical monitoring, his mother, Carolyn Hamilton, said his body is entirely black and blue. He may lose sight in one eye and has broken ribs and possible kidney damage. But it's the emotional effects on her son, who has fetal alcohol syndrome, that may stay with him the rest of his life, she said.

Plenty has "happened" to this country, but human beings have always vilified and hated whoever is "the other" in their eyes.

I hope these guys rot.

This poor soul endured physical pain and anguish but I can guarantee you that many other disabled people suffer emotional anguish, ostracism, despair, misunderstanding, isolation, loneliness, and hurt right from practically the time that they are born. It's sad and outrageous. But, that is what we, in society, are.

See how tought these fucks are in a maximum security prison. Something tells me torture of the mentally challenged won't go over so well with the some of the other inmates.

True, racists, bigots, and assholes can be found everywhere, but in the South they are more overt and actually take pride in being stupid, walking turds. That doesn't mean that all are like that and you have my sympathy for feeling defensive. However, I've met more of the Bubba sort than people like you.

McCain found himself in the odd and uncomfortable position of defending an opponent who is pulling away in many polls at the end of a week when he and running mate Sarah Palin stepped up their own attacks against Obama -- often inspiring outbursts at raucous rallies, complete with cries of "terrorist" and "off with his head."

The Minnesota gathering lacked that kind of harshness, but sustained booing greeted many of McCain's attempts to discourage the crowd's fear and anger. Of the 21 questions posed to McCain during 45 minutes of give-and-take, one-third challenged him to take on Obama more aggressively, with a few making incendiary comments.

Late in the town hall meeting, Gayle Quinnell of Shakopee called Obama "an Arab." Taken aback, McCain shook his head and, taking the microphone from her, said, "No, ma'am. He's a decent family man, citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues."
