Just on CNN: ACORN and Philadelphia
CNN reports there may be upwards of 10,000 fraudulent ACORN registrations in Philly. Reporter went to local ACORN office and interviewed one of the local coordinators -- she was wearing a T-shirt that said "ACORN votes OBAMA".

I am fearful this could explode into a major scandal.

You don't know me, and I am new here, so I don't blame you one bit for being suspicious. But it's true, I am a lifelong Dem. And a pissed off one at that. My wife and I are working with the local GOTV efforts here in PA. And you can damn well bet that I'm taking a personal day on Nov. 4 so that I can drive people to the polls.

I think I adopted stoge18 when I set up my first Hotmail account in about 1996 or so. I wanted plain old "stoge", but it was taken. as was stoge1, stoge2, etc.... so I went with stoge18. It's something that's old and familiar to me, so I use it to this day.

Seems to me that lots of stuff is repeated here. My OP was meant to bring this latest story to everybody's attention. Nothing more, nothing less. I know this whole acorn attack line is bullshit. But, I believe it's important for us to at least be aware of everything MSM is talking about regarding said bullshit.

In my estimation, though, this particular one I noted in my OP was heinous enough to point out. The fact that the acorn interviewee had on a shirt with those words I cited in my OP weighed heavily on my decision to post. I stand by my judgement -- the CNN report was post-worthy.

7. Voter registration fraud is not voter fraud
The media, particularly Fox, doesn't make this distinction. There were fake voter registration forms submitted by ACORN, but the fact of the matter is Mickey Mouse is not going to show up at the polls to vote. People still need to show official IDs to vote and in many states ACORN is required by law to submit any and all voter registration forms they receive.

Fake names on a registration form can't vote, but the criminals and fascists in the republican party who have managed in the past to suppress voting threaten democracy more than slackers.

Lazy registrars who fill out forms with fake names to get paid are wrong, of course, but republican goons working in court and at the polls to deny legitimate voters access and who succeed in throwing out legitimate votes cast are the real traitors to democracy.

The fact that I joined on 9/11 never even crossed my mind. I found DU this summer, luked for quite a while, and finally decided to join in September. I'm a lifelong Dem from the northwest corner of Pennsylvania. I grew up in a lower-middle class home. I voted for Dukakis in 88, Clinton in 92 & 96, Gore in 2000, Kerry in 2004. I'm a volunteer at the local Obama office.

It never occurred to me that posting what I had just seen on CNN was a violation. What did I do wrong?

10. McCain was keynote speaker at ACORN rally in 2006
BradBlog reports that the keynote speaker at ACORN's Feb. 2006 national rally was (wait for it)...

John McCain!

http://www.bradblog.com/?p=6508

"What makes America special is what's in this room tonight" -- McCain to ACORN rally

Republicans have been complaining about ACORN for 30 years (they're "anti-business", don' cha'know), but they were good enough for McCain to court only two years ago.

My first question would be for more specifics on that "may be" number. There indeed may be "upwards of 10,000", but past experience with Republican smear campaigns argues against it.

12. ACORN by law must submit all registrations
They flag the ones that look suspicious in order for them to be investigated as well as submit the name of the canvasser that submitted it in the first place. I would be shocked it there were 10,000 fraudulent registrations in Philly and the last time I checked, saying that "there may be" is really crappy journalism.

ACORN works on their own. They flag their own mistakes to be reviewed. They CANNOT throw out registrations, even if they are for Mickey Mouse. It is a federal offense. SO they flag 'em and send them in to get checked out.

There can be no voter fraud unless people vote. I guarandamntee you Mickey Mouse will not show up to vote. First time voters are required to show ID.

48. PA requires newly registered voters to show ID at their polling place

This is being overblown.

Also, in the Pittsburgh area fewer than 100 problem registrations have been identified.

49. yawn
We really don't need to stoke this - it's a relatively small number and they're blowing it WAY out of proportion.

54. Listen carefully: Registrations do not equal Votes.

The GOP is trying like hell to make ACORN a Democratic scandal because they know they might lose and are completely desperate.

Did you know McCain has ties to Acorn? It's idiotic.

And I'm hopeful that people see through the bullshit. I remember the swift boat shit from 2004. That term's now in our political vernacular (ie "he got swift-boated"). I'm concerned this story could resonate with the indies and undecideds.

75. You've got me all wrong.
I'm not too concerned about much after watching tonight's debate. Barack is 3-0 in the debates and we're 19 days away. Say what you want about me based upon a single post, but I'll tell you right now that I've supported Barack Obama from the moment I first heard of him about 4 years ago. I am so tired of hearing the same old bullshit for the past 8 years. I'm hearing it right now as I listen to the CNN rebroadcast of tonight's debate. I hate McCain, his dumb Alaskan excuse for a runnning mate, and all of his lame ass campaign people. I really do hate them.

57. I think I need to go over to the ACORN website and donate.
This Republican bullshit has been repeatedly debunked all over the place. ACORN is doing a great job of fielding these scurrilous accusations and so is Obama.

66. It's a bullshit charge.
I listened to a "debate" on this issue between one of ACORN's organizers and a Republican stooge. All the republican stooge could do was stammer her bullshit lies while the other person was armed with the facts.
