BOSTON --

If you haven't registered to vote and you plan on voting in the Nov. 4 election,

you need to head to your city or town hall because the deadline to register is today.

NewsCenter 5's Gail Huff reported that registration workers were expecting a busy day at Boston City Hall as hundreds of people rush to register to vote before the deadline.

"It's going to be an extremely busy day all day long ... There'll be hundreds of people registering in person here and at elections offices across the state. There's over 1,000 registrations coming in every day and we expect maybe 5,000 or 10,000 more today alone," said Avi Green of MassVote.

Many town clerks offices are planning to stay open late to register voters.

"You should go to your city or town hall. They're all open until 8 p.m. tonight. If you don't have time to go, you should register by mail. Some post offices, like the South Station post office, are open until midnight. But, your registration form needs to be filled out correctly and completely and postmarked today," Green said.

His office is also producing get out the vote T Shirts that are part of the campaign to register voters. He said there are more than 100 non-profit organizations working across the state to register voters, no matter what their political affiliation.

"November 4 is a big day. Whether you're voting for John McCain, Barack Obama or one of the third party candidates ... it's critical that your community, your family, has a voice. So, everyone needs to vote," Green said.

He said there's a possibility more Massachusetts voters will register than during the 1960 election when John F. Kennedy ran for president.
