1. That's why I said to folks who asked me to wait until AFTER Quarter 3 results were in.
I was correct in guessing that Quarter 3 results were dismal.

8. if you were psychic you wouldn't need to play the market
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 01:07 PM by pitohui
you could just buy powerball and have more money than you could ever hope to spend with no worries

i wonder what it is about people that they simply refuse to accept science? how many studies have to be done to prove that you can't time the market?

go stand at a dice table and in a short while not only will you make a fortune, you will be comped all kinds of goodies to go with, it's pretty easy, get your money in good when the rolling is hot, pull your bets down right before the shooter sevens outs -- that's all you need to know

and it makes exactly just as much sense as what you just said

the trouble with people is that if they look out the window and see the world is flat, you have a hell of a time convincing them that it's round, it takes a few generations and the invention of ships good enough to actually sail around the globe

the volatility index was at an all time high, it was no secret that there were going to be insane swings including crazy "dead cat bounces" but people prefer to believe that they know more than the math, and eventually they're gonna get whipsawed

i pity them but at some point if the dude stands there and keeps telling me the world is flat and that he is smarter than all those phDs who study economic theory and are paid millions to invest funds and he too can too stomps foot can TOO time the market, all i can do is feel sorry for him, you can't help the helpless

they are destined to be chewed up and swallowed, at least they will go down happy thinking they are smarter than everybody else, they'll have good days where they win big just like we do at the dice table and they'll refuse to acknowledge those bad days where they lose even bigger

1.) It was a LONG TERM, dividend based buy.

2.) I'm still up $3.5/share over what I bought my one stock for.

3.) While I wish no one else harm, I'm waiting for such drops to complete my humble portfolio.

And they'll be worth triple that this time next year. Day traders are stupid.... invest longterm.

15. You are operating on the assumption that GM will be allowed to go bankrupt....
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 02:03 PM by RollWithIt
They won't. The auto industry will be funded through to the next generation. That is like a centerpoint of Obama's financial plan btw. And GM is in talks for a GM-Chrysler merger.

The last time GM traded this low was 1952. That won't last long.

21. That may be true. As an aside, I generally believe if "it's too big to fail," then...
it shouldn't have been allowed to get that big in the first place. This is the result of not enforcing anti-trust law.

22. That is true.... sort of...
The real problem is the American Consumer having lost sight of why it is important to buy American made cars.

There is also a good chance you will see an increase in people making a concerted effort to buy American made vehicles in the future though. Since the Government is basically going to be taking a minority stake in a huge number of American institutions, it only makes sense that the Government will begin giving tax breaks to individuals who keep their money inside the United States. That is also a centerpiece in the Obama Economic Plan.

To be honest with you, I'm looking entirely at the next decade as an investor at this point. Longterm.

17. That's the only way you can possibly play a Market like this right now.
Good for you if you did that.

People who are attempting to pick the bottom right now are playing a very foolish game.
