What is the American Dream?
The phrase "American Dream" is common enough, but I wonder if it has ever been clearly defined?

Can it be defined?

Also, whatever it is, does it exist in today's modern America? Is it any different now than it was prior to the "Reagan Revolution?"

Does it mean the same thing to recent immigrants as it does for people whose families have been here for 3 or 4 generations or more?

(Please see this companion poll)

1. What's been defined for us and what it means to the individual may be completely different.

5. it was defined as the ability of anyone who works to be able to own a home

i'm not surprised that the younger generation has been sold a lot of hooey that it wasn't "defined" and only "had personal meaning"

no it had a real meaning and the meaning was if you worked hard you'd be able to own your own home

not possible any more w. modern low wages
