1. Even if there was only one cultural group doing the horrid deed - it is a step in the
right direction in East Africa.

8. Wonderful. But please don't call this barbarism "circumcision"
If what they've done to girls is "female circumcision", then "male circumcision" would mean slicing off a boy's penis altogether.

10. You are correct...
but male circumsision is barbaric, too. Just try to sit through a video of it- the screaming will chill you to the bone.

12. I'm reading "Born in the Big Rains," a memoir by Fadumo Korn
She underwent FGM at age seven in Somalia, and later went to work for FORWARD, campaigning against FGM. Her story is absolutely horrific.

Great news about Uganda. Passing a law is one thing, though; completely eradicating the practice is another -- especially when it's so deeply ingrained in the culture. Still, it's a step in the right direction.
