"Did you hear molsems (sic) are taking over Habitat for Humanity?"
There are half a dozen of us who do a 3 mile walk just about every morning.
Yesterday one of the guys asked me that question.
"Taking Habitat over? How?"
"They don't believe in paying interest."
"Sorry, I don't understand. What's that got to do with Habitat and how are they taking it over?"
"They don't believe in paying interest; won't pay the interest on their mortgages."
"So Habitat is building homes for some Muslims? Well, they'll build a home for any qualified person. I think there's a means test and the recipient has to take an active part in the construction. Are you unhappy that some are Muslim?"
"Yeah. Even the good ones won't do anything about the bad ones."
"Oh. Do you think the good Methodists (he is Methodist) should 'do something' about the bad ones?"
He laughed. "Heh heh. Maybe so."
"I guess the good Catholics should do something about the bad ones too?"
"Heh heh. Well, Mary (his wife) is really pissed about it. She thinks they should all be deported."
"Oh. I think that would be pretty hard to do."

That was the end of our conversation.
I've known this guy for many years. He's not the brightest fella, but kinda OK as long as we don't get on politics. This was his way at trying to hit back at Obama and it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard him say.

1. I heard the same thing.
They're demanding minarets on their garages.

:sarcasm:

Seriously, the "heh heh" when confronted with your point about Methodists exposes the truth. To say no would have disabled his logic but he couldn't bring himself to say "yes" outright.

Hope you enjoyed the walk otherwise. :hi:

2. For a thousand years...
...the Catholic Church -- and in the West, that was Christianity until the Reformation -- similarly banned the paying of interest. Note how in 1911 -- date of the source -- it was still controversial.

It's not a particularly 'Islamic' position....

3. DIdn't Jesus
throw the moneychangers out of the temple? I don't think he much cared for interest either.
