why is it that the netroots are always about 12 - 24 hours ahead of folks like Rachel Maddow, Olbermann, and Jon Stewart and 2 or 3 days ahead of "news" like Gibson and Williams. I'm thinking it's because "news" is too busy with "isn't George Bush just so wonderful" to spend any manhours on anything else, but when Keith throws it out there someone at ABC says "er, maybe this is important".

Edit to add my husband swears it's just News wants to vet the sources.

1. It because most news organizations no longer investigate...
Very little investigative reporting is funded or goes on today at the major news outlets.

So basically the 'bloggers' are doing a lot of the hard work, then the news orgs report it, if they feel like it/think it is sensationalist enough. They are more likely to report something before vetting is complete to 'scoop' the other networks, but I think they do try to get confirmation.
