Any Canadians out there?
I have a question for you. If the election is stolen, there will probably be a lot of Americans looking to relocate. How do you feel about that?

1. Seeing as I myself returned to Canada after 28 years in the States
precisely because of my fears of either no election or a stolen election, I'd say if they'll let you in, you can come.

4. I am canadian
And I do not think the election will be stolen this time. The republicans have screwed things up so historically badly - that even they do not really want the job of fixing it. They will pass it on to Obama and the democrats. The tide is getting to huge to turn back fraudulently.

And globally, the knives are set given the economic crisis. It will take a generation before the republicans can rebuild their base and take it away from the wacko far right wingers. It will take many more generations before America rises again. I believe that this economic crisis was thirty years in the making - and it will take at least that long to rebuild and restore. I have little faith that the current global leaders can fix this quickly. The model requires a complete overhaul. Wages need to improve, growth and labour must be reinvigorated from the base up and the top echelons of money makers should be penalized - for by their own hoarding, they are undermining the health of the economy.

Here is a radical idea reverse idea. Have every single man, woman and child recieve a yearly credit from your government - say $15 000. Children under the age of 18, will have this credit go into a fund that they cannot access until the age of 18, at which point, they will be able to use it for housing, or living while going to school. Adults can use this credit as cash. Social programs such as healthcare, infrastructure, education, hospitals, nursing homes, etc will be funded wholly by government. Personal income taxes set at a flat rate - and a ceiling for maximum wages - anything above $1000000 is 100% taxed, regardless of whether you are a corporation or a person. Education to be fully funded up to and including the first four years of university. Bank mortgages to be set at a flat lending rate of 7.0% with 15% down, over 25 years. Set up a flat sales tax at a rate of 7%.

The point is that when a person reaches maturity, or of working age - most are already in debt. I would rather invest in their future by giving them a leg up right from the beginning. I would rather that education is funded right up to and including university. I would rather universal health care without the middle insurance man. I would rather give the poor some funds and take some from those who make more than they can spend. I would be happy to live with less, knowing that I will be investing in our future, knowing that if I got sick, I would get healthcare, knowing that if I becmae infirmed, I would be cared for.

5. They're going to be welcomed here, if it happens
There were a lot of people who said they'd move here after the 2004 election, but statistically it didn't look like many did.

This election might be different. If the bastards steal it this time, I think a lot of people will make that final decision.

We welcomed the Viet Nam draft dodgers and we'll welcome anyone who flees from what will certainly be a WORSE government than Bush dreamed of.

8. I used to think people escaping their country to come to the U.S.
were wrong, in that they should stay in their country and fix what is wrong. But I am old and I am tired of fighting. My life long ago lost any semblance of normal. IF the election is stolen I know I couldn't bear it. It would be doubly humiliating if after fighting and resisting this administration for so long that we weren't even welcome in Canada. But you know after observing many of my fellow Americans I can see why that could be true because that has been the most painful realization in all this--that so many of these fellow Americans are DUMB FUCKS with no redeeming value whatsoever. You can see them in line at the Palin rallies.

6. I feel badly about it.
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 01:59 PM by Billy Burnett
I feel badly for anyone who feels they have to flee their own country, especially such a great country as the US can be.

I hope the American lefties stay in the US and continue trying to restore the US to the shining beacon of hope it once was.

:toast:

7. It amazes me the arrogance of Americans who assume they can
just go to Canada any time they want to. Probably the same ones on their high horse about our illegal immigrants.

If Obama wins and the freepers want to flee to Canada, it'll be hard, but we have to take them back. What has Canada ever done to us that they deserve that? We have to do with right thing and turn the freepers into soap instead.

9. I just watched Sicko today, & I'm surprised there aren't border lineups
with Americans trying to get in here.
Mind you, there are advantages to living in the U.S. that we don't have here either. There are a lot of opportunities and possibilities for people there who have the talent and the drive.
Yes, there is opportunity in Canada but not to nearly the same degree. If you have the brains and the ambition, there are definitely more doors open in the U.S. There are big Pros and Cons to live on both sides.
BTW, the cheap cost of booze and velveeta cheese alone in the U.S. compared to Canada is cause to go South. Manly good bargains over the border and that's why a lot of us head your way. (When the dollar is good of course)

10. My brain is fried, I don't like Velveeta and my only ambition
is to grow one hell of a good vegetable garden, so I better go to Canada and make way for someone with brains and ambition. House swap anybody?
