Obviously the intention was to have nobody check in, but some people are apparently in-fucking-capable of reading beyond the first sentence.

So I recommended it, hoping to see how many more will fuck up the goal of this thread by completely misunderstanding it. :P

12. Obama supporter prior to the Powell endorsement, and after.
I agree with Skinner and many others that Powell sought to atone for his past lapses of judgment. they were grievous lapses of judgment and hurt many, but if one lived in the dark house, Teddy Roosevelt says, it matters far more that one leaves that dark house.

“...a devil masters each of us it is not having been in the Dark House, but having left it that counts.”

--Theodore Roosevelt

Politically, Powell is a high-profile, much-respected military figure and his endorsement is potent currency in the political marketplace.

He did right this morning in his choice for our country's future.

40. you drew that conclusion
so an explanation of how they're connected is incumbent upon you.

all said is that criticism of powell at this juncture rings hollow and is difficult for me to understand how it can be spun as a negative for our team, i.e., Obama/Biden.

41. not following you
You said we need to focus on winning the election rather than criticizing Powell. I said I do not see the connection.

How is criticism of Powell being "spun as a negative for our team." I don't see any connection there, either. Obama didn't endorse Powell. If that were the case, then what you are saying could make sense, since it would be Obama, possibly, who would be the one criticized. But Powell endorsed Obama, and it is Powell who is being criticized, not Obama, not "our team," and not the value of the endorsement necessarily.

If Limbaugh endorsed Obama, would we then be required to refrain from criticism of Limbaugh lest we be accused of spinning negatively for our team?

I don't see how endorsing Obama makes a person immune from criticism, nor why anyone doing the criticism would be accused, in essence, of disloyalty. That makes no sense to me.

You said we need to focus on winning the election rather than criticizing Powell.

please show me exactly where i said this

How is criticism of Powell being "spun as a negative for our team."

it's not. powell's endorsement is being spun as negative or unnecessary or not needed by the Obama camp. I even saw some duers suggest he should not accept the endorsement.

Obama didn't endorse Powell.

I don't know where you got this...

If Limbaugh endorsed Obama, would we then be required to refrain from criticism of Limbaugh lest we be accused of spinning negatively for our team?

false dichotomy

don't see how endorsing Obama makes a person immune from criticism, nor why anyone doing the criticism would be accused, in essence, of disloyalty. That makes no sense to me.

you are again putting words in my mouth and, by proxy, ideas in my head. please stop. i suggested neither of these only think that criticism of powel at this juncture is untimely. suggesting somehow that his endorsement of obama is not an a huge event for Obama's campaign because of Powell's questionable credibility is counterproductive mostly because this endorsement brings with it the possibility of those dreaded, yet highly coveted, swing votes. does this really require such detailed exposition?

what i meant was focusing on the election is more important than criticizing powell for drinking his party's kool-aid.

notice two things: powell remains a criminal

and

bigger. fish. to. fry.

meaning, the endorsement is positive news as far as winning the election is concerned

The ironic thing is that it is counterproductive. The idea that a free and open discussion somehow hurts "our team" is simply false. It is the suppression that does damage to the cause, not the dissenters.

No one is switching their vote based on this. No one is criticizing Obama. No one is hurting "our team" by criticizing Powell.

...on principle. if new york is in play i will vote obama, but i will quite certainly be holding my nose as i do. obama's acceptance of the war criminal's endorsment in glowing terms, tells me that MY #1 issue, the prosecution of bush, inc,, is NOT going to happen, it tells me obama is not who he purports to be, and he most likely is not who you think he is, but don't realize yet. i am exceedingly pissed off at obama, but i'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face.

73. If it had a sarcasm icon it would be an anti-vote-Obama post
because as it stands, without a sarcasm icon, it is a pro-vote-Obama post due to the sentence "May this post sink like a stone."

The very idea!

72. Well I won't be voting for Obama...
but it's not because of Powell. You see, I have a minor problem. I am not a US citizen. Yet.

If it all comes together I may well have a chance at voting for Obama in 2012.

Until then my wallet is open (I am a legal US resident)... and I'll do what I can whereever...

Mark.

80. _I_ am NOT voting for Obama because of Powell's endorsement.

Instead, I am voting for Obama because (and only because...yep, I'm one voting not so much for Obama but against the neocons) he's not Republican. The good (or not) general's endorsement's got nothing to do wit it.

Though it really is funny -- in a kinda sad way -- to see the eminently predictable wild-eyed knee-jerk reactions to this whole thing.

But I'm still a supporter.
