74 yr old Obama supporter recieves death threats for displaying Obama sign
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-villa_park_signoct17,0,1501910.story

A 74-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man with Obama signs in their front yards near the 600 block of South Villa Avenue received similar letters that had a Villa Park Village Hall return address. "Get the Obama signs off your property—now," the letter reads. "Failure to obey this order will result in the immediate death of all family members." Both residents said they will not remove their signs, though the man, who had voted Republican for 25 years before switching parties this year, said his wife is worried about letting their 7-year-old son play alone outside.

32. sure, or an M 16 or an AK 47
even in Chicago. Chicago unconstitutionally, according to the supreme court, bans handguns, but they DO NOT BAN ASSAULT RIFLES! a shotgun with 5 or 6 shells is great for the home, like in Bowling for Colombine at the gun store. Once they hear you click click the shotgun most folks will freeze and shit a brick because they know they could soon have their head blown clean off!

34. Sorry about you friend.
Last night my best friend, who I've known since I was 12, said she was going to vote for McCain, then she used the n-word. I damned near hung up on her. I've spent years teaching her about how hateful racism is, and I thought she had changed, but I guess not. Ever since she moved to a very small town, with hardly any diversity at all, it's just gotten worse. I don't want to lose a 10 year friendship, but I can't stand hate like that. And to make matters worse, the father of her kids refers to any non-white person as a ni**er.

22. Things seem to be getting even more scary -
I could understand losing my first 4 Obama signs, my first 2 Obama/Biden signs..... I live in a neighborhood that is quite a bit more crimson than even most of Red Alaska. However, my signs for state/local races (all Dems, of course) haven't been touched, nor have my final Obama/Biden signs. One thing I have noticed - not too many national signs in the immediate neighborhood (not even McPalin) but a LOT more Dem state/local signs that I've seen in the 13 years I've lived in this house.

I, too, blame the national leaders of the Republican party, as well as McCain/Palin, but I also hang a LOT of the blame on RW talk radio/television. Old Joe 6-Pak don't reed to well or spel fer shit, but the teevee is allus on and if its on teevee or radeeo it must be right..........

It terrifies me to think that some of my neighbors could go off like the idiots who threatened these folks.

Will we ever get back to decency and respect for our fellow citizens? :(

24. McCain Campaign to blame for some of this
My daughters were outside with an Obama sign they made. They begged me to let them stand outside with their sign to show they supported him. Being a blogger, I see a lot of hate.... so I was worried but finally decided I couldn't shield them forever and it was just outside the house at the corner so I reluctantly let them. Most folks around here are decent.. they came back all happy saying lots of folks waved and beeped their horns. I asked, did you get any bad comments? The girls said, just three. Two put their thumbs down, one flipped us off and scream terrorist.

I blame this on the McCain campaign. He's ripping this country apart for the sake of wanting to win an election. I am completely disgusted by it. Someone needs to bitch slap him.

31. DUPAGE COUNTY =HELL
My sister and her boyfriend, both Democrats, live in Itasca. TOO MANY REPUBLICANS!!!! As my brother would jokingly say "them folks need to get some guns"........I would write back to the return address and tell them to come and get me if they think they can outrun the bullets from my SKS (really, dad has on and would loan it to me in such a situation). If not they would need to get past the glock 9 in my hands and the 38 in the hands of the wife. The 7 year old son is old enough to handle a .22 I know I was. I learned how to shoot when I was 5. Dad bought me my first gun the day I was born. A .38 revolver 6 shooter. I could kill those fuckers through the wall of my house if I saw them arrive outside with their guns out. If not the glock would be used inside the house, and I aim very very well. You want to kill us for supporting Obama, fine. But do not forget that HALF of Democrats like HALF of Republicans, own and keep guns in their homes. So if you think it would be easy think again! Hmmm Perahps the shotgun would be better for the wife than a pistol......you can blow someones head or any body part for that matter, right off with a shotgun at point blank range.....

44.  I don't know Man .
We lived a few miles west of Itasca in the late 50's through the 60's and in itasca right off Irving park rd in the 50's.

Back then it was not close to the hell you describe it is now. Back then dems and repubs didn't steal signs of threaten others lives over an election , most people didn't even display signs. They listened to the balanced news media and watched the candidates in real debates , debate the issues. Religion was not even in the picture and guns were never something as a thing of pride.

I don't agree at all with your rage displayed here about shooting people. There are still hopefully other ways to address these sort of threats, if not then this country is it's own worst enemy and we need to worry about some outside terrorist attack.

Man an I glad I am old now and still have grasp of common sense.

Why not think how you might feel removing someones head or arm with a shot gun well before you almost brag about it? Or look at it another way, what would be your reaction if Obama , the person you support spoke of such acts?

they threatened to kill entire families. If they came to my house because I left a sign up after such a warning I would be prepared. If you find it shocking oh well. What are we supposed to do, let them kill our families now?

47. I realize death threats are serious
But I also realize a neighborhood fire fight it not the solution either. I can understand self protection but I don't feel promoting it is a good idea.

If I were faced with this then I would find neighbors who were willing to do a neighborhood watch as a community effort.

I do find it shocking that we are back in the wild west mentality when both sides are wrong . To me a yard sign is not all that important if the result it a threat like this seems to be.
