I've voted from home the last few years, but I've always felt that half a day a year, and on a Tuesday in November no less, was way too short of a window of opportunity, its archaic, and silly to expect to get an accurate vote.

Give me some good ideas, oh, and fuck the electoral college.

3. We have absentee and early voting. I have no problem with the EC but would like election day moved

to a Saturday.

14. It should be a national holiday
I believe that it is in the Constitution as to the rules of what day the vote is.

4. I believe in Oregon they have a month and then get to just mail in their balllot
No standing in lines or trying to find a parking spot or risking running into that person you have been avoiding for some time. Time enough to study the issues and persons and discuss them with your family and friends, then let the Postman come to your house and pick up your Paper ballot..Oregon has had vote by mail for over a decade now and everyone loves it. Both Parties and they have some of the largest turnout in the nation..

6. 2 days. one of them a weekend.
it wasn't by accident elections are held on a weekday during business hours - it's to prevent working people from voting in large numbers.

7. Election Day should be a Holiday.
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 07:56 AM by danieladamsmith
I can't believe we have so many holiday and observances and yet the day that matters the most to us as Americans is still a day where people have to work.
Election Day should be like the 25th of December.

Over here in Vienna where I live/work elections are always held on Sunday and virtually nothing is open on this day.

The thought that people have to worry about getting to the polls before/during/after work is a joke.

3 Day "Weekend"
Complete with a paid day off, parades, celebrations, etc. It should be a HUGE event, anticipated like Christmas, Thanksgiving and St. Pats all rolled up into one. Early voting is great but I would also like a huge emphasis on how lucky we are to have this process.

10. Voting Is Changing
I live in the north and have never missed getting to the polls on election day. Personally, I have never had a problem and think those who find excuses not to show up on election day are just finding excuses.

That said...I do think our system is in need of revising and modernizing. A lot of it is underway. The object is to make voting easier and more accessible and things like early voting and motor voter (polling places at the same place you renew your drivers license) and even the use of computer technology are not a bad thing, it just has to be done in an impartial and transparent way.

I see Election Day in the future as being a deadline...just like April 15th...a closing date to get votes in rather than a mad rush to the polls.

Cheers...

11. i've never had any problem getting to the polls on election day.
most places have early voting available now, anyway.

a week-long vote is probably over-kill, however i could see it being a two-day affair.

12. That's why we started voting in Arkansas yesterday
The courthouses are open 8-6 Monday-Friday and 10-4 on Saturday. Thank the Democrats in the Arkansas state legislature for this, btw.

15. I've never had problems with the window presented us...
I've never had problems with the window presented us, nor have I known anyone who did. Some years I get up a bit earlier, other years I get home a bit later.

I imagine that early voting expands even further the opportunities one has to cast their ballot.

16. I would set voting for the Presidential Election
on the First Friday of November at 12 noon EST and end it on Monday at 12 noon EST three days later.
For even year non-presidential races I would make it From Friday to Sunday and the off year races Friday to Saturday same time frames.
