Question about switching parties to vote in the Primary "against" a candidate.
Through my work with the Obama campaign I found out that my friend, who has always been listed as an Independent, switched in the Primary this year and voted Democrat. Since I have known her, she has always said that she was Independent but voted for Shrub both times. Had the yard signs, wore the shirts, bumper stickers, etc. I went over to welcome her to the Dem party and talk to her about voting for Obama. (I was very excited). She told me that she was still an Independent but she and her husband voted in our primary because they thought McCain would have an easier time defeating Obama and that she hated Clinton. I about spit in her face. Is this illegal? I'm not planning on seeking an idictment on her, but I have to be at a party with her tonight and I wanted to be able to have something of a comeback if she brags about it again.

I'm sure this was probably discussed at length during the primary season. I tried to search but couldn't find anything about it. I'm sorry if I am bringing up an old subject, I wasn't on the site very much in the spring. Just one more time for the people in the back. :eyes:

4. "Wow, if Obama would be easier to beat, I'm glad CLINTON didn't win the primary"
"McCain would've had a fucking STROKE by now!"

5. Markos of DKos and Flush Limpballs
both encouraged their "folks" to do this, loosely termed "Operation Chaos". the fact that Markos was so unwise (stupid) to call for this immoral behavior is just one of the reasons I gradually decided no longer to traffic his site.

7. What? Markos?
where are you getting that from? Obviously Rush broadcast his wishes. Are you doing the 'the other side does it too' thing?

11. I "got it" from his site
where he front paged the call to do this. Now he scrubbed it later when he realize what a dumb idea it is, never the less he made the call and at least a few of his lap-dogs at least claimed to have done this for him.

edit to add...who was it that Markos wanted people to vote for? Ours was a highly contested primary.

6. It's not illegal
The DH and I registered as Repugs in 1980 to vote against Raygun in the primaries.

21. I'll admit, it did make me feel unclean
But, if we'd been able to nip Raygun's campaign in the bud, it would have been worth it.

9. I thought
that when Limpbag was encouraging his listeners to do that, actually doing it was not illegal but Limpbag encouraging them to do it was - or am I misremembering?

10. I remember hearing something about it was illegal...
I just can't remember which part. And then someone bragged about it on a website here in OH and everyone said that if they admitted to it, they could be in trouble.

12. I think the intention to tamper with an election is illegal
but it's not illegal to change parties and vote.

13. Your friend is a liar from the start. Registering as an Independent but voting strong a GOP
ticket for at least the last three times is deceitful. Typical of a GOPer

17. Not necessarily. My ex is registered as Independent and he always votes strongly Democratic.
For some reason he just didn't want to be affiliated with a "party" when he registered.

20. In Ohio everyone is registered as an Independant
until you claim a party in a primary. If you do not wish to be registered with a party, you just never vote in a primary. I don't think once you vote in a primary you can go back to being an independant. I know if you switch from a republican to a democrat in a primary you have to sign an affidavit saying that you are indeed switching parties.

but I've never voted for any other party except for Greens in local elections.

15. Part of American freedom is to register as they wish (except here in Texas).
Your friend is free to register as she wishes -- Communist, if that is allowed in your state. And she can reregister as something else.

As to Texas, it does not register by party -- one votes in the primary one wishes.

16. A schoolteacher I know told me she & her colleagues all registered Republican for the primary
to vote for McCain.

Not that they particularly supported him, but they all DETESTED Romney so much for his education cuts when he was governor that they all just wanted to vote directly against him.

18. It may be technically illegal in NC, but of course any such restriction is unenforceable
But I consider it unethical and would never do it myself -- it's just bullshit, sorta like trying to ensure that your kid's little league team wins the game by making sure the other team has lousy players and is badly coached: only jackasses do stuff like that

23. It's not illegal, and the sword cuts both ways so it isn't really unfair either
I suggest you forget about it and try not to worry about things you can't control.

24. No, a few people do it every time. It's legal.
It's never enough to make a major difference, and the delegates are there to sort it out if for some reason a mass of other-party-loyalists tainted the primary results.
