16. I've been in Montana since Labor Day weekend
I've been astonished at how many Obama commercials I have seen on TV here. Team O is ceding NO GROUND. :toast:

Oh, saw the first McCain commercial 2 days ago.

3. Like NV, CO, and NM, Arizona would be ours this election except for favorite son
McCain. Demographic trends are moving AZ into the Dem camp in the long term (2012 and beyond)

4. My aunt and uncle in Arizona LOATHE McCain.
My uncle, particularly, seems like just the type of person to be a McCain fan: white guy in his mid-60s, Vietnam vet, and a literal millionaire. But they can't stand him...I remember them ranting about him years ago.

6. It would make sense for Arizona to support their own Senator
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 03:04 PM by PearliePoo2
out of some pride or who knows what...but I think the entire Southwest has now got him figured out and they don't like what they see,
The huge gaffe he made about Colorado and their water sunk him there. (IMO)

7. Oh, I think Arizona will ultimately go red,
but I doubt it's as solidly red as many people think.

5. I would like to see Obama do a quick swing through Alaska coming
home from Hawaii. It is only 5.5 hours flight from Oahu to Anchorage, and Obama could do a day in town and the airport. Let's take the Alaska electoral votes too!

10. Carpetbagger was looking for a home
A place where all you need is the POW card to get a nomination and and (R) next to your name to get elected. He's never really been viewed a "Ours" - even by AZ conservatives.

There was a joke when he was first running for Congress that the definition of an "Arizona Native" was anybody who had lived here longer than John McCain. There where people who still had most of their possessions in moving boxes that fit that description.

12. It Could Happen
Didn't Gore loose Tennessee & Kerry loose North Carolina, so anything can happen especially with the deep Mexican & Native American population.

14. There are constantly new people in Arizona who have no loyalty to McCain.
Most of McCain's support comes from people who have lived here for 10, 15, 20+ years.

However, Arizona's fast-growing populations could create a problem for McCain, since people move here from literally every corner of the country.

I could definitely see Arizona being close. I think only a giant landslide would give the state to Obama, but it will be closer than 2000 and 2004, where the margin was about 55-45% Republican.
