Not a thought in her head that a man didn't put there, always campaigns wearing spike heels, believes in shooting helpless animals from helicopters is sport, talks in a squeaky, baby voice and thinks that some parts of the Unites States are more American than others.

I honestly don't know what to think. People project their own identities onto other people all the time, that's why celebrity worship is such a big feature in the human psyche.

I know I cry every time I watch ballet -- I studied ballet throughout my whole childhood, and danced a featured solo when I graduated from my ballet school. I wanted to move to New York and try out for George Balanchine's New York City Ballet. I collected photos and calendars of famous ballet dancers, I fantasized about Rudolf Nureyev all through my adolescence.

Never made it to New York (long story). But there's an extremely strong emotional charge around ballet that remains in my psyche, such that I absolutely can NOT watch a performance without weeping.

Maybe this woman had deep dreams of being strong and successful and wild and funky. Dreams of saying outrageous shit, of totally telling off people who offend her. But her real life is one of going along to get along, of being meek and mild and socially correct. So she weeps for the wild woman she once wanted to be.

The thing is, for me, we can't keep separating people into enemies and friends forever. If we're really serious about transforming this country, then sooner or later we're going to have to figure out how to cultivate compassion toward those who are eaten up with hatred and fear.

Maybe it suddenly dawned on her "I've been supporting these assholes. WTF have I been thinking."
