Need a quick answer, please: Is there any Obama record that's "sealed"?

My mom says she heard this on network news tonight. She also says Hawaii is "investigating" Obama's birth. Yes, I've read her Snopes; yes she still wants to know what's true.

tell her to watch what the candidates do and not what is said. That should convince anyone that Obama's the man for the job.

Unless it is the doctored records that Palin ordered changed to cover up charging the state of Alaska for her daughters' travel expenses.

I think sealed records would be all over the net if there was anything to it. I don't know if it's the old birth certificate record story or something else she heard. It's hard to argue when I don't know the topic.

She 92, blind and doesn't hear all that well. I wondered if it could have been an ad and she confused it with the anchor speaking. I'm having a lot of trouble bringing her over to Obama. She was there Sunday after the Powell endorsement. Then she heard more stuff that makes her uneasy with Obama (she listens to right wing radio because that's the only talk radio we have here). I spend a lot of time knocking down the junk she hears. But this one is hard to knock down because I don't know what, if anything, it is.

That's the first place my mind went too. I don't think Obama's the kind of collector who goes for the "still sealed" finds. He buys vinyl to listen to it. :P

There is no allegation that he is adopted. (Adoption records are sometimes sealed.) His mother's divorce records might be sealed, but there won't be much in there about Obama. There probably isn't anything.

Juvenile Court records might be confidential, but I doubt that Obama would have any such record considering his academic achievements.

Probate records of his mother, maybe? No. She was not wealthy and there would be no reason to seal them. I can't think of any records that might be sealed.

I don't have a direct reference, but Google "Andy Martin" and "Obama birth certificate" or "Hawaii SC".

My guess is that this is where she's getting this tripe. IIRC, he's the nutjob that's filed suit in HI, continuing to insist that something sinister is going on re: BO's birth.

I'm still thinking that if she's hearing something, it's probably related to this Martin guy's actions, or one of his buddies. I think Corsi used a lot of Martin's "research" for his hatchet-job of a book.

Well, then tell her this: all the claims against Obama have been proven wrong on the internet.

The newspapers are always a day late and the internet is able to publish corrects instantly.

That helped. But what I really need to do is take away her TV and radio till election day. She hears right wingers and thinks they're news people because they are broadcast. She was a dependable liberal until Glenn Beck got hold of her. I work every day to undo the damage.

She hasn't been blind very long. About three years, so it was a tough adjustment (she's in her 90s). Radio turned out to be her most major resource but she doesn't like music; it has to be talk. With only rightwingers on AM radio, it limits what she can hear. There is some liberal or more balanced talk on NPR (though our local station is mostly music), so I got her a second radio and set it on that station for her. She isn't able to change stations on a radio which is why she needs to in order to hear two different kinds of programming.

I'm feeling very bewildered by what rightwing broadcasts have done to her. She was a very lefty liberal until fairly recently. This election is the first one in which I've heard her say she's going to vote for a Republican. Imagine how I'll feel at the voting booth because I'm the one who has to punch in her vote. It'll kill me if she still wants to vote for McC on that day and I'm the one who has to operate the machine.

But she can't read and can't even tell what's on her plate -- or even there's a plate in front of her.

You can look for one at http://www.iaais.org - International Assoc of Audio Information Services. They broadcast, usually on a sub-carrier station, to blind or print-impaired listeners. I volunteer at the LA Radio Reading Service where we read the LA Times every morning.

Many of the services have internet streaming, but of course you need a computer for that. My other suggestion is that you set up some kind of computer for her and stream Air America all day long

I bought her satellite radio, but she couldn't operate it. Itty-bitty buttons on the remote. She even gets confused with just on/off buttons on things. I put paste-on buttons on things to help her find them, but then she forgets what button does what. And when I try to show her, she cries. Finally when I set her two radios, I put them on her station and already on all the time. All she has to do is turn the volume up or down. But then she'll hit one of the other buttons by mistake and then she's lost.

I've tried that, and also one of those tape players so she can listen to books on tape. Buttons befuddle her. For TV, I found a HUGE remote that she can operate. I've gotten her to venture over to Rachel's show.

I'm sure you've been through this all before, but they make CD players designed for people with poor vision.

He told warm, fuzzy stories ... lots of humor ... made some political jokes that were easy to laugh at. Lots of sentimentality. If I didn't know about him from other sources, I would have thought he was an entertaining guy, but too sappy for my taste.

Isn't that the site where anyone can do their own press release? This is released today as "Breaking News!" so it must be important. Anyways, they dont' say it directly but they imply that his birth records are all sealed in Hawaii, saying that the officials there wont' release anything.

As if this story needed any more validation for how important it is...they are now claiming there is even a Canadian birth certificate for Obama. :)

Headline says that SoS "Wants proof" - but body of story makes clear that citizen filed a lawsuit demanding that SoS request it.
